The work of the five programme sectors of UNESCO - Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Human Sciences, Culture, Communication and Information - implements objectives defined by the international community, such as the Millennium Development Goals.

UNESCO also works on a number of priorities that require a trans-disciplinary approach, alongside the traditional focus of its five programme sectors.
