  1. The South Island saw a little bit of snow yesterday as freezing level dropped to around 1000m. Report of 3cm near Naesby, Central Otago, and from Mossburn, Southland of snow on surrounding hills. ^CD

    Temperatures fell significantly with yesterday's southerly change. Christchurch for example fell from around 18 degrees in the mid afternoon to around 5 degrees with the southerly in the evening. ^CD

    It was a dramatic day of weather yesterday. A strong southerly change raced up the South Island. Christchurch Airport reached 57 km/h gusting 81 km/h, Wellington Airport experienced same, while Kaikoura reached a remarkable 87 km/h gusting 122 km/h! ^CD

    The max temps for today with a high in Napier of 29°C, Hastings and Christchurch close on 28°C. A bit cooler over the far south tomorrow with a high expected in Invercargill of just 12°C. Wanaka likely to get down to 2°C overnight into Tuesday. ^SF

    A Severe thunderstorm Watch has been issued for this afternoon affecting Waikato, Waitomo and Taumarunui. A front lies over the western parts of the central North Island today, bringing rain and isolated embedded thunderstorms. More details below ^KL

    Another front is forecast to move across the North Island during Monday, bringing rain to many places. The highest rainfall accumulations are expected over eastern Bay of Plenty and the Gisborne ranges, and a Watch is now in force for these areas ^KL

    A front bringing rain to mainly the central North Island today. Satellite imagery shows the clearance behind the front in the South Island and the lower North Island. Good news for areas in desperate need for wet weather as the front slowly moves northwards today and tomorrow ^KL
