Aberdeen lost out 3-2 to German side SV Hamburg in a friendly match to mark the Pittodrie club's centenary year.
Paul Sheerin fired the home side in front after just four minutes, but the Bundesliga side hit back with goals from Romeo and Baur before half time.
Baur grabbed his second of the evening just after the interval, but Aberdeen battled back and Derek Young reduced the deficit after 56 minutes.
Hamburg had provided the opposition to the Dons in the 1984 European Super Cup final and lost out 2-0 on aggregate to the Scots.
The latest meeting was set up following Aberdeen's finest hour - the 1983 European Cup Winners' Cup triumph over Real Madrid.
That win over the mighty Spanish side was masterminded by Alex Ferguson, who enjoyed eight successful seasons at Pittodrie before leaving to work his magic at Manchester United in 1986.
In their 100 years, the Dons can boast four league championship titles, seven Scottish Cup wins and five League Cup victories to add to their two European successes.
Ferguson was in charge for 10 of those 18 achievements.
Aberdeen have struggled in recent seasons and a new generation of fans have been starved of success - the last silverware to arrive at Pittodrie being the 1995 League Cup.
A musical play celebrating Aberdeen's win over Real Madrid - entitled Glory of Gothenburg - gets underway at the city's Arts Centre Theatre from 25 - 29 March.
