I listened to the twitter questions part only because I was hoping my question about why they get exclusive streaming rights for the entire American continent when they have no means of making those streams available to Latin America -thus depriving Latam fans from being able to watch a lot of shows legally by making it impossible for CR to get those streams-. Was disappointed that it didn't get answered.

So Dragon Ball Super's not even licensed? What the hell's going on at Toei?
This podcast was kind of a waste of time. Nobody really answered any questions, just a bunch of "We don't know" or "We can't talk about it". I know they're just doing their job, but I feel like Lance Heiskell handled this stuff a lot better. |

Regarding the Dimension W being partially by funded Funi as part of the production committee, ADV did a similar thing in helping fund Fullmetal Panic.

That's a little unfair. I'd say it was at most about 60% "we can't answer", 30% "we can give a little news", and 10% "We can announce". |

If you mean Funimation's website, it is simple www.funimation.com You will have to try it to see if it works. If it does you can watch delayed for free (with commercials). Subscription gets you immediate access, dubbed episodes and is commercial free. |

In terms of marketing to nerd culture in general, but outside of self-identified anime fans, a nice example might be what's been going on at The Mary Sue over the last year or so, where they've explicitly sought out more anime writers, and are now regularly putting out articles on Psycho-Pass, Yurikuma Arashi, etc., to say nothing of the seemingly endless recaps of the original Sailor Moon. Since TMS initiated those changes, they're clearly open to mixing some anime into their entertainment mix.

Something I'd be interested in knowing is if Funimation will put out physical releases of new shows that they don't simulcast. (Another way of wording this is: Will Funimation ever pick up shows that Crunchyroll ran, or is Funimation only focusing on what they get the rights to right off the bat?)
I hope Death Parade gets a nice Limited Edition release. That one seemed to do pretty well during its simulcast season. Then again, it was up against Assassination Classroom and other super popular shows, so there's no telling how well it actually did. On that note, I wonder if they have a certain amount of Limited Edition shows they plan to do each year, or if that number will fluctuate with the overall increase/decrease of viewership on their site. |

Justin's comment that event-style theatrical screenings of anime turn into mini-conventions echoes something my friend @ActionZero said when we met up in Kalamazoo for the Love Live! movie and there were a bunch of cosplayers in the crowd, along with other miscellaneous anime attire like Survey Corps jackets and Kill La Kill tshirts and what-have-you. These screenings are like a Bat-signal for weeaboos, they're great.

They have had Tatami Galaxy for almost 5.5 years and yet they still can't say for certainty whether or not they will release it on DVD/BD. While I didn't even get past the 2nd episode, I can see its fans wanting to know what the status is.
I think that they should have a right to know about it getting a DVD/BD release here. To a lesser extent, I think that they have a right to know a little about what whatever happened to their Nico Nico partnership or that ADV lawsuit. |

They don't have the home video rights. They had the streaming rights years ago and those lapsed shortly afterward. They have said, in no uncertain terms, "no" and "we don't have the license anymore", on this show and elsewhere. |

Actually Zac, they still have the streaming rights. You can watch it right here: http://www.funimation.com/ It's Rainbow they no longer have the rights for, but they've still got Tatami Galaxy. |

Not a whole lot, I am guessing, but yeah... that is still surprising that Funi wasn't first in the line considering how important the franchise is to the company. I wonder if Toei is holding it back to shop the title around for a bit... it would not shock me if they planned on doing that. |

Answerman - Is It Ethical To Import Anime From Other Countries?
industry
Anime fans in the UK will often import low-price American anime box sets - but is that ethical? What's the impact on their own local anime distributors? Justin gets into it.
― Jason asks: What do Japanese licence holders think of people in the UK importing US region 1 discs? How legal is this? Some times a show never seems to get a UK release and isn't available for streaming either. Japanese produc...
Interview: Attack on Titan's Trina Nishimura and Yui Ishikawa
anime
The voices behind Mikasa Ackerman come together to discuss what it's been like to be part of Attack on Titan's legacy!
― As Attack on Titan's second season came to an end, and Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block aired a supersized marathon of episodes from the series over the weekend, both the Japanese and English voice actresses for Mikasa Ackerman convened at Anime Expo to celebrate this mega-series...
Shelf Life - School-Live!
anime
James Beckett discovers surprising thrills and chills in this slice of life drama that's more than it seems on the surface. Plus, all this week's new releases and a new Shelf Obsessed!
― My daily streaming review shows for this season have a suspicious number of things in common. Both New Game and Gamers are video game-themed slice-of-life comedies (one about the people who make them, one about the ...
Review: Saga of Tanya the Evil
anime
This unusual series combines dark comedy and war drama to shockingly entertaining effect. Nick Creamer delves into Tanya's cynical world.
― Saga of Tanya the Evil's first episode largely confirmed all my worst suspicions regarding the title. Framed from the perspective of a tiny girl who'd somehow risen to officer status within a faux-German military, it seemed to revel in nastiness, playing up the g...

Mike straps in to his time machine for a trip back to the year 1997 to revisit some of his old favorites, from Battle Athletes to a little show called Berserk!
― This week, I'm finding myself stuck between stations. I've got a couple of pieces in the early stages, and one column that's almost done but just needs a little more detail to really make it work. Retrospective pieces are always good in a pi...

The Controversial Legacy of Final Fantasy XII
games
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age is an ambitious remaster of a game with a notoriously rocky development and release. Dustin turns the pages of Ivalice history for a look back.
― There is perhaps no Final Fantasy game—and certainly no 3D entry in the series—which has been uncontroversial. Maybe that's the cost of a franchise where each iteration is wildly different from its predecessor, making group...
Genshiken: Second Season GN 9
manga
Genshiken seeks to steer its most questionable plot arc into safer waters in its surprisingly thoughtful ninth volume.
― Genshiken Second Season has been a bit of a mess. In contrast with the original series' sensitive and remarkably grounded approach to fandom circles, Second Season has shifted from a promising setup into outright harem comedy territory, its characters moaning about their own cliche...

anime
Whether they're taking down monsters or just surviving the trials of high school, these gal pals have each other's backs through the best and worst of times.
― Hello readers! As you may or may not know, I'm approaching my fifth anniversary as the author of The List. With the exception of brief hiatuses and reprints over the last year or so, that's roughly 250 columns written about anime and manga to...

Answerman - Why Aren't Anime Sales Figures Made Public?
anime
We'd really love to know exactly how well our favorite anime sold on Bluray and DVD. Why do they keep these numbers from us? Justin gets into it.
― Michael asks: I was wondering if you could explain the mindset behind why anime companies seem to be so secretive with their sales numbers. I could be wrong about this, but I don't see any benefit to not releasing how many units "title x" sold or how man...

School-Live! Blu-Ray
anime
This one-of-a-kind combination of slice-of-life and horror starts strange and finishes strong. Theron Martin explores just what makes this series so special.
― The first episode of this series is one of the biggest cases of misdirection in anime history, as both the opening theme and first twenty minutes suggest that this is going to be a high-spirited slice-of-life series about schoolgirls. Sure, th...
