cour

A measurement of the length of a television series. A one-season series (of generally 13 weekly episodes) is described as being "one cour" long, while a two-season series (of generally 26 episodes) would be described as "two-cour."

Although generally 13 episodes, the exact number of episodes in a cour can vary. It is often between 11 and 14 episodes, with 13 episodes being the most common count.



The origin of the term is not entirely clear. The term is most commonly said to have originated from the French word "cours," meaning "lesson" (Note: the french word "cours" does not mean "course" as in a 1"-course meal"). Alternatively it is also said to originate from the English word "quarter" as a television season is approximately a quarter of a year.
