Did Pedro Almodóvar Sign On to Direct a Netflix Series? — Report

Pedro Almodóvar may have closed a deal to direct a television series for Netflix, Fotogramas reports. The project would be Almodóvar’s first experience directing a television series, though the filmmaker told Fotogramas he has previously been approached by several TV companies about projects for the small screen. No details about the project have been disclosed.
The news comes shortly after a short-lived controversy involving Almodovar and Netflix erupted at the Cannes Film Festival, where Almodovar presided over the jury. At the festival’s opening press conference, parts of a statement Almodovar gave in Spanish were lost in translation, leading some to believe that the filmmaker would not consider the two Netflix films (Noah Baumbach’s “The Meyerowitz Stories” and Bong Joon Ho’s “Okja”) for the Palme d’Or because they would not be screening in theaters in France.

TV Ratings: ‘Love Connection,’ ‘Beat Shazam’ Hand Fox First Thursday Win in a Year

The debuts of “Love Connection” and “Beat Shazam” claimed the top spots in the Thursday overnight ratings on Fox, according to Nielsen data.
Airing at 8 p.m., “Beat Shazam” with host Jamie Foxx opened to a 1.2 rating in adults 18-49 and 3.6 million viewers, beating its nearest timeslot competition–NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior Celebrity Special”–in the demo. “Love Connection” with host Andy Cohen aired at 9 with a 1.1 and 3.4 million, outdrawing NBC’s “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” in the demo. Although neither show could be said to have broken out in the ratings, they were still the top-rated shows of the night, airing against mostly repeats on the other broadcast networks.
The shows helped Fox claim its first Thursday night win since April 7 of last year, which was the series finale of “American Idol.”

For those curious if the final season of “Bloodline” is worth it — the basest function of a review — I will quickly and succinctly answer: No.
Such efficiency feels refreshing after 10 redundant and listless hours spent with a family stuck in the Florida swamp, drifting through the guilty consciouses of characters who seem eager to move on from their own story, and the only thing holding them back is the need to fill one more season.
At its best, “Bloodline” found tension in the intense moral quandaries drawn out by its central conflict: John Rayburn (Kyle Chandler), the patriarch of the Rayburn family, and his younger brother, Danny (Ben Mendelsohn), couldn’t resolve deep-seeded issues that divided them years before “Bloodline” began; not before it was too late, Danny was dead, and John was the one holding him under water.
