David Remnick

Editor

David Remnick was named editor of The New Yorker in 1998. He joined the publication in 1992 after ten years with The Washington Post, where he was the Moscow bureau chief.

He is the author of several books, including “King of the World,” “Resurrection,” and “Lenin’s Tomb,” for which he received the Pulitzer Prize for nonfiction and a George Polk Award for excellence in journalism. His most recent book, “The Bridge: The Life and Rise of Barack Obama,” was published by Knopf in 2010. Since joining The New Yorker, he has written more than a hundred pieces for the magazine. He also serves as the host of the magazine’s national radio program and podcast, “The New Yorker Radio Hour,” which airs weekly. Under Remnick’s leadership, The New Yorker has become the country’s most honored magazine, with a hundred and fifty-six National Magazine Award nominations and forty-one wins, and, in a first for a magazine, two Pulitzer Prizes. In 2016, Remnick was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Lisa Hughes

Publisher and Chief Revenue Officer

Lisa Hughes is the Publisher and Chief Revenue Officer of The New Yorker, a role she has held since February 2009. Under her tenure, she has brought The New Yorker’s sales and marketing efforts to new heights across print, digital, and events and helped the brand achieve a sustained level of profitability.

The New Yorker has received numerous industry accolades under Hughes’s watch. In 2016, The New Yorker swept Advertising Age’s top honors: Magazine of the Year; Publisher of the Year, for Hughes; and Editor of the Year, for David Remnick. The brand was also named AdWeek’s “Hottest Thought Leader” for the second consecutive year. This follows a run of other honors, including a place on Advertising Age’s A-List in 2011 and 2015. Also in 2011, Hughes, along with Remnick, received the Condé Nast Collaborative Leadership Award.

Prior to joining The New Yorker, Hughes served as the publisher of Condé Nast Traveler for ten years, from 1999 to 2009, where she guided the magazine through the most successful period in its then-twenty-one-year history. In 2008, Condé Nast Traveler was named to both Adweek’s Hot List and Advertising Age’s A-List, and the magazine also made the A-List in 2004. While at Traveler, Hughes was named Condé Nast’s Publisher of the Year in 2000 and 2004.

Hughes has held a number of positions at Condé Nast, including Vice President and Publisher of House & Garden. Prior to that, she was Advertising Director and then Associate Publisher of Vanity Fair. She was a member of the launch team of Allure, where she was Advertising Director and began her career with Condé Nast in sales at Mademoiselle.

Hughes received her B.A. from Harvard, where she majored in Art History. She lives in New York City with her husband and two children.
