I know I'm meant to be all like "Wow, you go Spain, getting a bunch of famous people from the anime community" but I've found myself just looking at the Junji Ito photo and comparing it to how he drew himself in "Yon and Mu."
The resemblance is uncanny 0_0

wish more cons were like this in US. Great guess, focus on the creatives of the industry and lots of learning to be had. (I know the price of tickets is just not possible here).

Dont get me wrong, I find cosplay cool and great voice actors add a lot to a show, but I like to learn more about creatives and artisans.

No words on Lucca Comics & Games on this site? It's the second biggest comics convention in the world after the Comiket, first in Europe.

OOHH!!!! Junji Ito, wow! Argh, he's so cool, I wish I could go to Italy right now and meet him! I love Tomie! Speaking of which, are those the first volumes of the Tomie manga in the shelf behind him? Those look new to me. Were they rereleased?

I'm guessing that part of the reason why there are so many people here is simply the price of the event. You mentioned that you paid approximately 30 euro for the entire weekend. Most large conventions, depending on when you purchase your ticket, charge anywhere from $40-$100, with Anime Expo being at the upper end of that tier (not including the additional fees you'd need to pay for concerts). So yes, while the numbers sound impressive, when you take into account that the event in Barcelona is approximately 1/3 of what you'd pay at AX, it's not impressive at all.

I don't think I'd want to go to Barcelona for a con. I've been there before and it's too much like SF. Definitely my least favorite city in Spain.
