Pardon my total fanboy nitpick here, and I suppose it is understandable since you openly admitted to not having seen Battle of Gods, but...
That didn't actually happen. One very notable divergance from the standard DBZ movie formula in Battle of Gods was that Goku actually lost the final battle against Beerus. He put up a good enough fight that Beerus changed his mind about his plans to destroy the Earth for the horrendous sin of not giving him the dessert he wanted (no seriously, that was the last straw that caused Beerus to want to destroy the Earth), but Beerus totally won the battle. He never even fought Goku at full strength. That aside, yeah, this review of the F movie is pretty much what I thought too; It's a fun time for fans of the franchise, the characters are very much themselves still and the fights are enjoyable to watch despite the shoddy CGI-work... but it's 100% fluff, plot-wise. At the end of the day nothing actually changes from the events of the movie. Oh sure, Goku and Vegeta are training with Whis and have attained yet another new transformation, but that happened between the two movies, and so Freeza's return basically didn't affect them in any way. |

Yeah, you're right on there, I really didn't explain that aspect of BoG well.
I realized as I was revising the review that the outcome of Goku and Beerus' fight wasn't as cut and dry as I first gathered, but I was running out of room and didn't want to go into a whole lot of detail clarifying the last movie; I figured it worked well enough for people who haven't seen the first film and for fans who did, they'd understand the context anyway. |

I bought the complete series based on just watching the first season, sold it after finishing the second. I'm still not sure what they were aiming for, high school girl decides to spoiler[head a yakuza/mafia gang, fails, gets her love interest-body guard killed so then decides to atone for that by impaling herself with his katana through her throat... somehow] which had nothing to do with the main cast, world or moral implications. With everyone else being pragmatic, this comes off as some dumb girl's imagining of a samurai/yakuza hybrid. Really, it's a cosplay attempt that ends like a Shakespeare play. Why? A life took too lightly at the start, too seriously at the end is the perfect tone for the series that started with "boat versus helicopter"? I liked the Greenback Jane story but as for Hansel and Gretel, my own take was that spoiler[if they were altered to be interchangeable as either sex then, how should I put this, both were mutilated where it counts? Rock's look of horror was for what he saw, not that his Japanese tastes were offended by the offer. Given his previous position as management dog, it wouldn't surprise me if he probably had to procure similar dealings so... where was I? Anyways, neither child had any hope of a normal life or any life outside that peculiar world.] Was I rooting for the child murderers- I mean murderous children to get their freedom or be put down like they were murderous children? No, I was watching the series for its compelling main cast. Ah, that's the problem with Black Lagoon, it's not about Black Lagoon. May as well set it in Chinatown so I could end my post with "forget it, it's Chinatown." for all the point the setting has in the second season. Damn, they couldn't even have Rock or Revy do the final deed in that one, they just did a "Well, that just happened. Now let's move on like it never happened at all" because, um, status quo? Wait, All Black Lagoon stories end like that. Were they trying to make a point of how ineffectual the cast was or how much momentum the decay of the world had? "Not true, Rock changed." No, we knew what he was, we don't know how he acted. It could be case of "same dog, different world". Once he learned how to apply his old tricks, he was just as effective. Seeing how he played mafia bosses like they were corporate executives, I'm not even convinced he grew a spine, he just learned how to show his teeth to people. Seriously, people who will simply take your life are less of a threat than those who can fire your butt. What happened to Revy anyway? Nothing happened to her because nothing happened with her so what happened to her? She was so interesting in the first season too. |

Black Lagoon as a whole is far from complete. It's a shame that we'll probably never get all the answers given how long it's been on hiatus. Again. So we don't really know how much fully the characters will be developed. Your complaints are not unfounded, although I'd say maybe you're trying too hard to find answers. I will say though that Rock's shock at his "reward" had probably more to do with the fact that the reward giver thought it was ok for such a thing to be a reward. How messed up does your life have to be to think that the action is a reasonable reward and what does it say about their future outlook on life. It's just plain tragic and I think that really hit Rock hard. |

I was rooting for them. For they were deliciously insanely evil. Evil people don't deserve to be put down by the police or the common citizen. They deserve their deaths to be from insane monsters. So I enjoyed the blood bath the children provided as the tore through the countless evil criminals. The children's story was tragic, and compelling real considering what ISIS is having children do nowadays. But too much blood has flowed and the damage was too deep, you knew how the story had to end. But still it was a gloriously bloody ride. |

DB Super has gotten into this movie's material now, and I think they're doing a much better job with it so far, especially with the amusing-yet-menacing arrival last week of a certain spoiler[Namekian frog we haven't seen in a looooooong, long time]. My guide to the new Dragonball stuff would be: -Watch the first couple eps of Super. -Once the Beerus stuff starts, skip it and watch BotG instead. -Then skip the "Fukkatsu no F" movie and watch the version on Super (at least so far) |

I don't know of any official announcement, but I wouldn't be a bit surprised. The order may go the other direction (a movie adapting a Super arc, or there may be original stories like they used to do). |

well unfortunately you'll need to read the latest manga (Vol 10) cause it does have more revy. though it basically about rock and his changing demeanor after roberta's blood trail arc. though people will have to have a real iron stomach to really get into it. i completely dropped both manga and anime after the yakuza arc and was already peeved from the utter cruelty from the Romanian twins arc and this is someone who lived in the high violence era with series like mad bull 34 and others. but even i had my limits when it came to that arc. |

Kingdom DVD
anime
By all rights Kingdom should be a grand epic, but it falters in its storytelling by over-narrating and failing to find a balance between action and character development.
― Note: I use the Romanization provided by Funimation in the subtitles, but from the pronunciation it isn't entirely clear if pinyin or Wade-Giles is being used. Refer here for pronunciation differences. In some ways Kingdom is to C...
