Why the heck is Kira Yamato in the poll? He's not a Newtype, he's a Coordinator.

The only one on the list I ever saw any of was "Getsumen to Heiki Mina", which I only saw a few episodes of. That was a spinoff from the opening title sequence to "Densha Otoko" (Train Man), which was a live action series, but had an anime opening sequence to the tune of E.L.O.'s "Twilight".
(Blatantly ripping off the Daicon IV pv) Man, I'm sad. |

Sugar Sugar Rune was made too late, it came to being around when Precure changed the standards of the genre.
Nanatsu-iro Drops had a horribly annoying crybaby female lead, there's cute crybaby protagonists like Aria from Sister Princess and then you have Sumomo, your crybaby characters should not be like Sumomo. |

I have watched Sugar Sugar Rune and Akazuki Cha Cha, the latter airing on Cartoon Network Asia with english dub in 1998. Cha Cha was hit that it's theme song by SMAP is well known.

I have seen Nanatsuiro Drops when it first came out and I remember liking it, though I'm not sure about now. I do agree that Ririka and Hime-chan's Ribbon need way more love. Unfortunately, horrible experiences in the Precure fandom have driven me away from magical girl shows, especially Precure, and I don't know if I'll get back to them.

Never heard of Okusama, but the concept sounds like an interestingly difference spin on the genre. I'll have to see if fansubs of it are available somewhere.

Because the editorial the poll is based had him in it because in the writer view point those with the SEED are like Newtypes |

As a Digimon fan, pleased to see Butterfly so high in the poll. We all knew which would be number one, though.
A few of the magical girl series on this list sound really interesting, especially no. 1. Man, I really need to watch more magiucal girl anime. I've only really seen Sailor Moon, Yuki Yuna, Madoka, and Cardcaptor Sakura. I have read a bit more manga though. |

She may have said that in her article, but no, he is literally a newtype. He is a coordinator, has SEED, and is a newtype. Although he didn't awaken as a newtype until Destiny. |

Five of the magical girl manga mentioned in this article were serialized in Nakayoshi, and yet you conveniently forget to mention Shugo Chara!, which was also extremely popular when it was still being serialized. Nakayoshi even advertised it as being as popular as SM and CCS once, near the end of it's run. I'm not really surprised that it's been ignored, given how everyone on this site is so obsessed with SM and never wants to give SC! any credit.

The Sugar Sugar Rune manga makes so little sense that I wonder if Anno was interfered with by editors or something like that. The rules of the magical game have some pretty clear implications which are never acknowledged and the whole idea is dropped unceremoniously in the middle of the series.

the execution is pretty bad, think low budget anime from the early 2ks; it was not very horriblle and considering all the mediocre anime from that era it sits just fine. |

Sugar Sugar Rune is an intresting one especially given why Anno wrote it:

I attempted to watch Nurse Angel Ririka SOS but the subtitles were so badly timed that it was impossible to try and keep up with as they always felt one step behind the dialogue. I actually remember Red Riding Hood Ch Cha because it was one of the numerous references made in Insufficient Direction. |

I am familiar with the names of Sugar Sugar Rune, Nurse Angel Ririka SOS and Lil' Red Riding Hood Cha-Cha, but not much beyond that. Actually, I recall seeing a few French dubbed episodes of Cha-Cha back when I was vacationing in Turkey years ago.
^Someone else who knows Nick Jr.'s old TV block! Yay! :D
Agreed. The premise reminds me of the fact Japan was originally inspired by Bewitched to create the magical girl genre. |

I had never heard of that one either, but it got my interest. I looked to see if there were dvds, but I guess it wasn't licensed so... yeah, I might also be doing that. |
