May as well get this out of the way:
I didn't buy Madoka at 40 dollars per BD volume for the standard version because it's more than the series is worth. Four years later and it's still the same price and still the same deal on 3 BDs I believe; It wouldn't surprise me if it takes up the same amount of space. The only thing they're doing is lowering the price on the OOP original standard releases... and why were the standard versions out of print in the first place? Are they expecting the demand to be the same or are they hoping to catch the eye of the Netflix crowd or... I just don't get their business model. "We sell things, we get money. When we don't sell things, we get.." Please, help me out here. |

Gokudo's out! Time to toss all those ripped Netflix DVD's.
And I finally get to watch Koi Koi Seven without learning Español on Youtube. And as long as all of Madoka, TV and Movies, are on Netflix, I don't need to buy anything more. |

I enjoyed Super GALS even if maybe like a third (more?) of the episodes are kind of crappy. "Gals" were and still are often shorthand for delinquent/bad person so it's neat to see a less grumpy portrayal (for a more recent similar example, see Please Tell Me! Galko-chan!).
It got surprisingly heavy at times; Ran has no problems but the other two main girls certainly do. They form neat foils as one suffers from a total lack of parental involvement and the other suffers from overbearing parents who burden her with overly-high expectations. The art is a bit too simplistic; a flashback in one episode to one of the character's early childhood is rendered pretty silly by having to depict her with her bleached-blonde hair because she wouldn't be recognizable without it. Pretty serious case of sameface here. The original manga ran in Ribon which is aimed at young girls. This might be why it concocts an occasions for Ran to mention she's a virgin in the first episode/chapter. She doesn't even let her boyfriend kiss her (which it made good hay of when it made him wonder if she was just playing around with him). Then again I think there's been racier stuff in other Ribon series so maybe it's more complex than that. The original manga also never does the weird superhero stuff the anime does and is even more just a story about teenagers goofing around. It featured an interestingly unorthodox story with the cliche of a bullied kid threatening her tormentors with a box-cutter. |

Aniplex's business model has perplexed me for years (I even wrote in to Answer Man onetime about it). But the thing is they seem to sell enough disks, at those crazy prices, to keep them going. And have done so for years now. |

I saw you had Makoto Tateno's Yellow as well. I really recommend going to YaoiCon, especially if she comes bask as a guest (she was last there in 2015). The people who attend are very open, friendly and inclusive. I've met several yaoi mangakas, but Tateno is one of the few guests I've met that not only is into it (as well as meeting her fans), but really enjoys the con. You'll have a good time with her as a guest. |

I vaguely remember SuperGals....I just remember the art-style kind of turned me off. Don't know why....
Is Maria The Virgin Witch any good? I was worried it would be....idk....raunchy? Like tamer than your average sex comedy? |

I'm not sure I would call it a sex comedy. More like a historical drama with occasional comedy about sex? It's pretty feminist too, with lots of talk on women's agency and social roles in a time period where women were really respected by society at large. Also, the dub has some downright poetical phrases regarding genitalia (or the lack thereof). I didn't even know they were doing a DVD release of it, and I'm seriously considering getting it. |

I liked Super Gals at least enough that my name is in the credits for the second season DVDs. Along with everyone else that put in a preproduction preorder so that The Right Stuff had enough orders to bring out the DVD set.

I never did see the sequel to Teknoman/Tekkaman Blade after I watched the entire English dub that aired on KCOP years ago in the 90s. I heard it wasn't very good though. Anyone here have any personal firsthand experience with watching it?

You just described why I could never get my younger brother to watch this show with me.
I don't remember much about the art style other than the consistently unappealing ways they animated Ran's boyfriend's facial expressions (note to shoujo character designers: the main character's love interest should never remind me of Sae from Peach Girl). |

Doamygar-D Sub.DVD
anime
Doamygar D offers simple but endearing riffs on classic super robot staples, two minutes at a time. Nick Creamer investigates.
― It's a little surprising to me that a show like Doamygar-D would get a western release at all. The show is unabashedly insular - starring a young Kyoto confectioner known as Daijiro Kyougoku, it riffs on super robot cliches from nearly half a century ago, mixing them with s...
