I'm gonna miss your column, Todd. There were lots of laughs to be had here, and I really did appreciate your perspective on many matters. You had a good eye for obscure gaming history and contexts.
You did a great job these past 8 years, dude. This one's for you. |

Nice parody of Turboduo Power not to mention it's 2 MB gimmick. I should play Gotta Protectors soon.

What controversy? Everyone knows Nina was the obvious choice! Here's hoping the new gaming column also has funny comments when you hover over an image! |

I have long been wondering when X Button would receive an update to match the modern era of the press.
Anime News Networks is one of few sites that I still enjoy with a simple and colorful, design, but I still think ANN should update much of its column format. I anticipate continued enjoyment from whatever follows X Button articles. |

Just wanted to say- I will miss this column. It's been one of my favorites, and I've always appreciated Todd's humor and willingness to mention issues/opinions he knows he'll get shit for. This was also a wonderful aggregate of game news/reviews for someone too busy to keep track of ALL the game news out there, as it singled out the primary stuff I care about (namely Japanese/Japanese-influenced stuff). I dutifully read every hidden text caption! Thanks for the entertainment over the years!

Glad to hear you'll still be a writer; I'm not interested in the large majority of the games that you cover, but your humor was far too good to pass up. Here's to you, Todd.
I assume this will go the way of Answerman, spreading out the content across a week rather than once a week. |

It's been a pleasure reading this column these many years, and I'm sad to see it go. As others have mentioned, thanks for saying what needed to be said about games and being a point of humor to look forward to in the weekly slog. I'm sure the final installment will be a glorious advertisement for [Gravity Rush]/[Valkyrie Profile]/[Monster World 4]/[other barely-remembered retro games]
I don't think anyone can fully replace Todd's alt text mastery. Hopefully he trains the new regular writer in his crafty ways, otherwise we'll have to wait for the occasional standalone review to get our chuckles. Last edited by redcar on Thu Jul 21, 2016 1:00 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Ah, I'm so sorry to see X-Button go! It's been a real treat to read all these years, and as an old gamer myself (I just turned 40 on Tuesday-- how did that happen?) Todd's firsthand experience with classic games always gave the column a nice sense of history and perspective, with plenty of humor, too. I'm really gonna miss my Thursday lunchtime read. Plus, I just don't have time anymore to keep up with all the latest news in a dozen places, so it was always nice to have a good wrap-up of the highlights.
Thanks for all the good times, Todd! Also, yes. Why the hell isn't Crystalis on the new mini NES? T___T |

Well, its been a wild ride, the X Button was a great column for game related news over ANN these past years, shame its going to end soon. T^T
But hey, for those that haven't noticed, unless they did for a long time, its funny to see Todd's quirks of words over the pictures if you hover over them, its always a nice touch, lol. Until next week, it seems. >.> |

Ah Dizzy, the girl that disrupted all those wishful pairings. I just wonder how bad it's going to be when people have to accept that in Revelator Dizzy spoiler[is confirmed to be Sol Badguy's daughter].

Thank you Todd. Even when my interest in anime was at its nadir, I would still occasionally venture here to learn of current affairs in the world of video games. Should ever any writer make creative use of alt-text in future articles on this fair website, it would amount to nought but an imitation of your clandestine jest. Alas, evermore shall our mice hover over ANN article images in vain expectation of your warm but often irreverent words.

So The X Button is coming to an end after eight years of publication... Well...It was a fun ride while it lasted. While I was neutral towards most of the titles that have been featured here, I did enjoy Todd's sense of humor.

We'll never see eye to eye when it comes to a lot of opinions, but I wish you best of luck in what you're doing next.

The first novel that spawned the cult success anime series "My Teen Romcom SNAFU" is as divisive as it is unique. Rebecca Silverman weighs the ups and downs of Hachiman's adventure.
