Thank you both for managing to stay awake! There is almost something rustic to persistent A/V problems at a convention—it gives a certain homely touch that is missing from purely corporate events.
As an inveterate moe fan I am still pleasantly surprised that everyone is enjoying Planeterian, though I can now add Sweetness and Lightning to the list of titles I shall keep an eye on this season. The Fujoshi Summer, it seems, still caters for the full breadth of shamefully narrow tastes such as mine! I must remark that Zac's impression of the Love Live voice actresses was something of life-affirming but soul-destroying beauty. Boston's reaction spoke for many of us. |

Zac's impression of the Love Live! girls' answers to questions was so spot-on. There might be something wrong with the way my brain is wired, but I loved every second of his voice for that--not even joking. Thank you for that, Zac-tan. <3

Reflecting on the comment about the lack of general audience shows,

In overall quality I find this new season a bit weaker than last season, but I am actually finding more attractive shows this season. The stuff that I have liked the most this season so far is Orange, Amanchu! and New Game!. I try to avoid crappy shows, but I did watch Rewrite, which to me is really not that terrible, but it was annoying to see 47 long minutes of all those cliches from 10 years ago.
Nice podcast guys and yay for the return of Supernerds. |

Was there for the live show, but I wanted to say that I'm loving that people are enjoying Planetarian, it's been 10 years since I played the game and am stoked to see it animated after all this time. It will be long because they'll adapt the drama CDs (from what I heard).
I wasn't so upset about Rewrite because I played the game and kind of see what they will do, but I can see this from an outsider look and understand. The pacing is not to my liking either. But i will wait to see how they go about doing this. |

Good to hear the Sunshine panel went well and that the Seiyuu are talented all though I'd have to say the one with the most native talent is Suzuki Aina (Mari Ohara) and she was not there sadly.
Also, there are the sub-unit singles but since all the Seiyuu were not there you couldn't very well have those it is a pity because Guilty Kiss's two singles are the best songs out of the subunits. Overall I think it will be interesting to see the maturation of the performers since many of them are complete neophytes or have little voice acting or singing experience. Also odd piece of trivia Hamasaki, Hiroshi who is directing Orange also directed Shigurui and did Storyboard ((eps. 1, 2)). We stay at the Westin Bonaventure every year, which isn't particularly close to the con (it's further walking distance than most would be comfortable with I think) but Uber is $5 each way, comes immediately, and I use it every time. The shuttles have lines but they generally run pretty well; basically you have a short wait, walk for 5 or 6 blocks, or pay $5 and get there right away. Honestly none of them are particularly awful options and I have a lot easier time in DTLA than I do, say, when I'm at a convention at the Javits center in NYC. |

I think it might also be a response to the growing competition from other subscription based streaming services. There isn't that much anime out there in the grand scheme of things -& only a few titles a season that will likely be popular enough to pay their costs & cover those shows that under perform- so there don't need to be many competing bidders to push up the licensing prices further & split the subscription base as viewers are forced to choose between services. With Funimation, Amazon & Netflix all moving into global streaming, CR going the other way & getting involved in physical retail sounds on paper like a sound way to get more out of their licenses. Of course, their previous attempts to diversify their portfolio beyond anime simulcasts haven't really seemed to be a success, & physical sales is a crowded & declining market already with ready examples of companies that have tried to find a place & messed up with lacklustre releases etc, so I dunno if this will do much good for them. Will have to see what they release & how, I suppose. |

Rewrite is the worst show of the season, you say? Well, I'll call you on that, and raise you Masou Gakuen HxH and Scared Rider Xechs. Your move.
Seriously though, the Rewite anime is so much weaker then the VN in every aspects it's not even funny. There ARE supoer powers, so it's not a chuuni story though. |

Ah, thanks for the info! Bringing up walking directions from Westin Bonaventure to the LA Convention Center on the map gives me a much better sense of the lay of the land for AX… and how totally different its truly downtown location is from the big cons I've been to: AWA is in the suburbs (until the Atlanta Braves ruin it, of course), ACen is in a purpose-built convention district adjacent to O'Hare airport, and Youmacon is downtown, but it's Detroit so it doesn't count. |

Zac's comment made me wonder about the Aqours actresses' ages, so I looked them up:
Aida Rikako (23) Suwa Nanaka (21) Komiya Arisa (22) Saitou Shuka (no year given on her agency profile webpage) Kobayashi Aika (22) Takatsuki Kanako (22) Suzuki Aina (20) Furihata Ai (no year given on her agency profile webpage) |

I'm there with Jacob and Zac in that there isn't much this season that I can point to and say that I'm going stick with each week. Many shows target an audience that doesn't include me, which it probably ok because I have a backlog to work through.
I'm also in agreement with Berserk. It looks bad, but I've been wanting to see this content in anime form for so long that I'll find a way to tolerate it. |

A lot of copyright maximalists (Disney, especially) might forget that a lot of media companies get their start doing new versions of public domain works.

Answerman - Why Are UK Releases Slower Than North American Releases?
anime
Christopher asks: I live in the UK and one thing that has been bugging me for a while now is why there is such a big gap in releases of anime Blu-rays/DVDs between US and UK of the same series? One prime example of this is "One Piece". If a series is been released only in the US and not in the UK, that's different. But when the discs is been sold in both countries, why is the UK so far behind our...
