Not to mention, the removal of nudity in these episodes also creates a plot hole that still grates at me. In the manga, Lisanna transforms into her catgirl outfit just to get some clothes after she's been stripped. Eventually she runs out of magic, leaving her bare naked in the middle of the action for all to see. The anime goes through the exact same motions, except she still had her clothes on before she transformed. So where the hell did her clothes go?
Oh, and the English dub is the best it's been in probably ever--the scene where Tempester blew up and contaminated the town was actually scarier in the English version than the Japanese version--not to mention that all the Nine Demon Gates have pitch-perfect casting. And it still gets a B- like the rest? |

The darker tone is a little jarring at first for a normally light-hearted series, but it's not overbearing, and I can see where it was needed to make Tartaros feel like a legitimate threat considering Fairy Tail just won the title of strongest guild in Fiore just beforehand.
The biggest gripe I have with the episodes in this set is definitely the lengthy recaps. It's pretty rare for me, but I ended up using fast forward because it got tiresome sitting through several minutes of content that I just saw in the previous episode. |

The dub was and still is/has been one of the best ever, I just love it. Ricco Fajardo as Jackal was amazing, and Mathew Mercer as Silver sounded great to, not to mention the rest of Tartaros.

I'm still annoyed at how toned down the violence can be, but whatever.

I agree with everything that was said about the character designs and animation, it seems like it constantly gets dingier, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed Laxus looked a little fat. He's one of my favorite characters and I'd appreciate it if they'd quit messing around with the characters and brighten things back up a little, it looks like its dark all the time, the colors used to look so vibrant

Tataros arc is amazing, hands down the best arc of Fairy Tail. Also I loved all the endcards, nothing wrong with the Wendy one honestly, that's one of my favorites.

At least they're showing a little blood. And ironically, one of the deaths to come in the upcoming DVD is actually more graphic than the manga. Just as a hint, it involves grabbing a face... |

This is my main issue with the last arc of the anime. I don't care if the Tartaros arc is supposed to be "dark", the muted colors don't suit this show at all. I hate how Erza's hair went from vibrant scarlet to muddy purple. Lucy's hair from bright blond to dirty cream. Mavis's hair that was platinum blond became pretty much grey in the ZERO arc. It looks like crap. And with the abysmal animation and horrible direction they're just not doing the material any justice. I hope that, if another studio picks it up to animate the Alvarez arc, that they give it to someone who actually cares, because in the whole Tartaros arc you could feel how little the people doing it cared about it, there was no passion at all. |

I agree and I loved the color of Erza's hair and I don't like how her bangs now covers one of her eyes. I noticed the animation almost completely changed kind of in the beginning of the Magic Games and I was like, WHAT? I guess we should count ourselves lucky that the voices stayed the same |

"Abysmal animation and horrible direction" are the only two things I don't get from this. I mean, some of it was pretty bad, but quite a bit of it was cleaned up for the DVDs. And if you bring up the spoiler[Igneel vs. Acnologia] fight like how it's just the two of them bumping into each other, that seriously only applies to the first 1/3 or so. Bottom line is, the animation is really no worse than the original anime was at its worst. Just watch this video, and note that only 10 seconds of it comes from opening sequences: https://www.youtube.com/ |

of course there is nothing wrong with that card. but considering that she's is supposed to be the "loli" character of the series for those mind numbed otakus out there, you cant be surprised that there are those who dislike that type of fanservice to be up in arms over it. also i am more surprised that there werent any more in dept about that hunter gild. hell i am more surprised that the guild still even exist considering that in the Zero arc, makarov's dad yuri, warrord and prect (hades) were members of that same hunter guild before meeting up with mavis & zera and forming fairy tail. and the reviewer should be surprised that the anime version completely censored the nudity. especially on how far they slightly censored Ep 162's fanservice compared to the manga. after all this series is supposed to be a shonen type series and not be completely consumed by its fanservice. its more or less what doomed bleach. |

Yeah they can be up in arms about it, but it's a fictional character and there are fans that like the fanservice. Just pointing out that their arguments will fall on deaf ears for the most part, but yeah nothing wrong with voicing complaints. Also Bleach doesn't really do fanservice that often, at least in comparison to other series, don't know what you mean by "Doomed".

To me the Tartaros arc wasn't all that great. It had its moments in the beginning (the fight with Jackal, the first fight with Tempester, the Crawford twist,,etc.) but in the end it kind of fell flat. spoiler[How Erza beat Kyoka was the height of lazy writing for example, and don't get me started on how meaningless Aquarius' sacrifice was once the Alvarez arc rolled around.] It wasn't the worst arc by any stretch spoiler[IMO that honor firmly belongs to the GMG/Eclipse arc] but it just didn't hold out in the end. All that being said it's still good to see it animated for those that like - even if the studio kinda droped the ball...a lot. [/quote] |
