Hi,
I have like three different ad blockers on my web browser (firefox), but I'm still seeing ads in the righthand column (Samurai Armor Hoodies, etc.). They're similar to articles but clearly say "ad" on them. Is there any way to block these? I really hate advertisements. |

It's an "advertorial" (a sponsored article) not an off-site ad, so appears the same way as other site content.
I doubt anyone at ANN is going to help you with blocking adverts, since adverts are one of the main things keeping the lights on around here. If you subscribe you can turn off adverts, although I don't know if that applies to advertorials. |

I want to buy a subscription. Heck, I tried to buy two for Christmas, one as a gift.
They require Visa, mastercard, American Express, or Discover. I have cash and debit. A lot of younger people (and anime fans are typically younger than the average consumer) do not have credit cards. ANN is turning away a big revenue stream by insisting on them. So no, I feel no remorse at turning off their ads. I have money for the site if they decide to accept it from me. |

You know you can use Paypal to subscribe and link your debit card to Paypal?

That only works for one time payments such as purchases. Since the subscription is auto-renewing (a very lucrative thing for any company), it requires a credit card. More specifically, if you go to https://www.paypal.com/ |

I didn't know the subscription here was auto renewing. I learn something new every day. Though if you link your bank account to Paypal, you can get around that. I don't have a credit card linked to Paypal and have several recurring payments via it.

Being a subscriber doesn't block the Advertorials, however, they are clearly marked. If you don't click on them you will never see the content. Getting upset that they exist is a bit extreme.

Wow, I did NOT know that. Thanks for telling us. The subscription is not even auto-renewing; the only reason for using the Paypal subscription mechanism is that on the site we present it as a subscription. If I had known we were blocking out debit card users, I would've used the one-time payment option. 20/20 hindsight. Unfortunately I have other more urgent things on my plate now, but I'll try to fix this when I can. |

Answerman - Why Do Japanese Kids Carry Handkerchiefs?
anime
Children in anime are frequently shown carrying a handkerchief - why is that? Is it actually a common thing in Japan? Justin investigates.
― Darius asks: Why do school kids carry handkerchiefs with them? I see in a lot of anime, old and new, that kids have a handkerchief in their pocket to wipe their hands while in the bathroom and various other uses, and they seem at a lost of what to do with their...

Psycome Novel 2
anime
Psycome loses its way a bit in a second volume that focuses too much on the "comedy" and not enough on the "psycho."
― Authors' afterwards in light novels can be anything from sneakily informative to long lists of rambling thanks, so you could be forgiven if you usually skip them. Mizuki Mizushiro's epilogue to the second volume of Psycome, however, is definitely in the former category; Mizushiro men...

Honey So Sweet GN 4
manga
Honey So Sweet continues to live up to its title in this fourth volume, even though a bit of angst is rearing its dangerous head.
― If Horimiya is the sweetest shounen romance currently being published in English, Honey So Sweet is its shoujo equivalent. Amu Meguro's story about an adorably awkward high school couple is much tamer than its shounen counterpart and at times sweet enough to rot your tee...
Answerman - Why Aren't There More Classic Anime Kickstarters?
anime
Escaflowne, Bubblegum Crisis, Otaku no Video - classic anime kickstarters seem to do great, so why don't we see more of these?
― Reed asks: How come more anime companies don't run Kickstarters or other crowd-funding options to pay for recording English dubs or for funding Blu-ray releases? AnimEigo has done a few titles, some manga has been done this way, and Funimation did Escaflowne's redub throug...
Girls und Panzer der Film

The Girls und Panzer movie may not be Shakespeare, but it sure is fun! Nick Creamer discusses the dub premiere of this diamond in the rough.

"Who Is The Next Hayao Miyazaki?"
anime
Seems like every new anime director with half a success gets called "the next Miyazaki". Kevin Cirugeda considers the most common "Next Miyazakis", and why that title is totally dubious.
― If every anime viewer were to write a shortlist of the most essential creators in the industry, I have no doubt that Hayao Miyazaki would receive the most mentions with a massive lead over everyone else. And that's...
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Part 2 GN 4
manga
The finale of the Battle Tendency arc is an amazing combination of insane fighting and Victorian melodrama as JoJo's Bizarre Adventure continues to impress.
― The world of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a strange one, even by the standards of shounen or seinen battle manga. Part of this is the necessary supernatural element of the story – the hamon, the Pillar Men's powers and lifespans, and the amazing...
