It's been a while since I've seen that much concentrated cringe in one anime episode.
At any rate, the Index reference was funny: http://i.imgur.com/ [EDIT: Changed pic to link because it was oversized.- Key] |

I've thoroughly enjoyed the first two episodes so far, more than I was expecting. Ako is a big reason for that; she reminds me of my favourite character, Erio Touwa from Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko, in many ways. And I found her reactions to Rusian's RL intro in episode one adorable.

Well maybe but I sure hope that they don't focus solely on Ako. I could very quickly get tired of her and there is only so much amusement you can derive from her delusional antics. Right of the bat "Rusian" and "Schwien's" covers have been pretty much completely blown and the "my husband" bit is already getting old. We will just have to see how it goes. |

I found the manga adaptation to be pretty boring and assumed the light novel was only popular because of the illustrator, but the anime has been surprisingly watchable.

I find this show really endearing and cute, something I wasn't expecting when I started the anime (the synopsis didn't help, either). But so far, it's been a very enjoyable ride. I find Ako's problem a very interesting one, and it would be pretty neat how this plot point is developed. Sure, I'd also like to know more about the other girls and Russian, who fortunately isn't a annoying self-aware MC (like the one from Re:Zero).
I wish though they wouldn't show Ako's boobs every 5 minutes, because it's turning a bit annoying. If they want to make a rather serious anime, this cheap fanservice should be toned down a bit. |

I pointed this out before in the preview thread, but the original illustrator for the LN is H-artist, Hisasi. Even the volume covers are mildly erotic, plus the show is tagged ecchi. The fan service will be prevalent and not be denied. Haha. |

I do agree about showing the boobs every 5 minutes. But I guess they think that will sell DVDs after the show. In the manga it's a lot of low angles to show the panties it seems so I'm not surprised.
I'm looking forward to see what they do with this series but with trepidation of trying not to expect too much quality drama. There will be mild drama and uncomfortable tension comedy with random fan service all while trying to make Ako the future waifu of all viewers. |

Without commenting about anything about the show itself, I did want to mention how it still kinda floors me seeing that Universal startup splash at the beginning of each episode. I mean it feels like I'm about to watch a major Hollywood movie and it moves on to the Funimation splash and then the show itself. It's kinda jarring in a funny sort of way.

^ And the worst part is that those two presentations last 1 minutes. It feels eternal and annoying. Quite funny given the show they are producing.
Yeah, I know where I was getting into, so I can't complain much. I just hoped the direction would be a bit more graceful regarding fanservice. |

To me, it seems like the emphasis is more about the lips, especially the girls'; they doesn't look like the average anime lips.
I also get the MC's situation, on how he superimpose the real people unto their online characters; while keeping online and RL relationships is the optimal course of action for most, for me it can be a bit tougher once I can put a face on the online avatar/username. From the synopsis, it sounded like the main girl was in full-blown "intermingling between online and RL," but since it is more about "the lack of discretion & tact," it can, as noted in the Review, explore a different aspect of the matter. So far, I'm liking this show |

My favourite gag was the sound effect they used whenever Schwein/Segawa dropped the character in-game (buhi is basically Japanese for "oink"). The invocation of the old ero doujin meme also got a laugh out of me.

I'm very much surprised at how not terrible the writing in this show is. It actually has a central theme and conflict!
So far my main complaint about this show is its below average production quality and lazily drawn characters. When I see a silly romantic comedy show I think of Kyoani, and I can't help but remember how high quality Kyoani's characters are drawn and animated compared to Netoge. |

And she isn't already in her attitude towards reajuu or how she reacted to finding out he was talking to Nekohime or when she tried to attack Nekohime/spoiler[Saito sensei] in the IRL meeting with a staff? I guess you mean in a sustained manner, but she has already shown a yandere side. |

Her mental issues are actually a bit unsettling. Up to now she seemed just goofy and more likely to be in danger than be a danger. One thing I like about the script is that Nishimural is a) not completely clueless about the girls' states of mind, and b) he doesn't let them push him around. It was really telling that when Ako was about to rebel at Saito's requirement to attend school regularly he was able to bring her in line with a look. You just don't see that kind of interaction in harem setups. I suppose I should have seen the twist coming but I didn't. spoiler[ Proposing to the teacher?] Teh awkward.
What is it with anime and leeks? I was reminded of this. |
