The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA) announced on Wednesday that this year's Anime Expo convention had 100,420 unique attendees, a 10% increase over last year's number of 90,500. This year's number set a new attendance record for the convention. The convention marked the turnstile attendance at 304,799, up 15% from last year.

Anime Expo celebrated its 25th anniversary with this year's event, which took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center on July 1-4.

Emcees Tony Oliver and Courtney Kraft had announced during Monday's closing ceremonies that next year's event will run from July 1 to July 4, 2017 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. In addition, the convention will formally include a preview night a day before on June 30. Next year's convention will host Akira Himekawa, the manga creator duo known for their manga adaptations of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda games.
