My favorite anime police officer wasn't on the poll unfortunately. Death Note's Soichiro Yagami, with Shuichi Aizawa as a close second, are the characters that first come to mind as my favorite anime cops. As for the poll choices, I'd say it's a tie between Hajime Saito and Major Motoko Kusanagi.
Chose Other on the poll, for Soichiro Yagami. |

Under the incompetince ones...Akushima from DRAMAtical Murder should've fit too! lol He was a nasty piece of work. AND...not saying he's an officer, but he's in the catagory, Kureo Mado from Tokyo Ghoul...hated that man.

If they had done an anime adaptation of Sailor V, I'm sure Toshio Wakagi would have been on this list. He always tried to solve cases only to have Sailor V/Minako get in his way and spoiler[he eventually got fired and later sent into a department in the frozen wastes of Siberia].

Speaking of incompetent police officers, from Conan there is Detective (and later Inspector) Yamamura from Gunma Prefecture. Admittedly, you'd think most cops in a detective show are incompetent, judging that they rely on a outside detective (in this case a high schooler in the body of a first grader). But most are competent, both in non deductive police work and deducing the truth with some small observations from our boy detective. Unfortunately Yamamura is not, in either area. He is the only police detective who needs to be knocked out to deliver Conan's deduction and has caused problems in a few episodes due to accidentally letting a criminal escape. His record on cases not curated by Conan is poor as well. While not as bad as some mentioned, he is certainly the most incompetent police detective in Conan

I'm ecstatic that Natsuki made it among The List! Her cat traits are irresistible.
Rio Kinezono from Burn Up would also make a good candidate, thanks to her tendency to overspend on her paychecks. |

Not a particularly dangerous person and not evil, but Inspector Zenigata hasn't been too successful against Lupin the Third.

I'd like to give a shout out to Ushio Tetsu. He's come a long way from the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga(Hint: 5D's).

Depending on who's got the source material, Zenigata can be epic or completely useless. |

If only we had more cops like John Sleepy Estes. How can you trust a policeman who doesn't have a grenade jockstrap?!

Oh, yeah! A big thumbs up to the #1 on the list. Mad Bull 34 has to be seen to be believed...but be warned: it's not what you'd call "family friendly".

Interesting results from the previous poll. I didn't expect the entirety of Owari volume 1 to be that low, but even more of a surprise is seeing Tsubasa Family that low. I didn't like it at first either but mainly because I watched it before reading Kizu and the way the characters acted was much more of a shock in comparison to Bake and Nise than it should've been. Much less unexpected was Yotsugi Doll faring low, even if I did like it, I know most people don't.

I'm so glad Gumshoe made the list, even though his role in the anime has been so small so far. He's one of my favorite characters from the series.

Actually Zenigata has achieved measures of success up to screwing up Lupin's plans or outright actually busting Lupin or his friends (without it being apart of some grand scheme on the latter's part). It's just that the 2nd and 3rd TV series along with all the movies that came out of them went out of their way to make Zenigata incredibly incompetent and bumbling while occasionally showing flashes competence such as one episode where he individually took on and defeated Goemon, Jigen, & Lupin literally leaving them hanging in the process. |

Was a hard call between Miyuki from YuA and Briareos from Appleseed.
As far as the list goes, or rather, as far as Ms. Smith goes: in all fairness, it's not that she's lazy as much as she's kind of irresponsible. (And probably overworked, since she tends to mention this from time to time while at work -- which is most likely the main reason for said irresponsibility.) Yeah, we do have this scene where she's lounging around at home early in the show (and manga), but usually, she's always seen working outside of those times. It's quite telling that she states while she's lounging in bed that this is her day off. I thought she was lazy at first too, but the farther I read into the manga, the more it made me think that they might originally have wanted to go with that, but then changed her into being a corner-cutting irresponsible officer instead. Which is still kind of negative, so I'm not really arguing her placement on this list. She's... sort of good at her job, but also sort of a liability. |
