Can anyone fill me in on the story about the unflappable older guy that runs the restaurant? I have no clue as to what he might be thinking. He can't be oblivious but he acts as if he is.

Perhaps a friend of Ayame's father. the only thing he has said about all this is that he's well aware of Ayame's personality, so he could be a retired terrorist

Episode 6
Man, this was a pretty awesome episode. A few times I had to go back a bit to fully get the joke. Of note the sex aid making bit and all its awkwardness. Not sure if just a gag in itself, but the little details of Ayame's character that she was eager to talk about aids for males, but seemed to be increasingly awkward on the subject of one fit for females. Well she herself being clueless about it in ways also added to the scene. "Her upper body was vibrating more than usual." That was gold. Yes the actual fear he had of being raped was not funny, but the in general run from her was super funny. Also the showed us how to make a sex toy. |

Episode 7
Please tell me that "the mammals" terrorist group are furries. Sexual liberation without hurting others, would one say that is a major topic? It is why the guy covered in panties is not okay, nor Anna's goal, or really why he had a good reason about BL being made about him and Goreki. It did not feel like it was saying BL is not okay, really the fair share sexual interest between the genders is welcome. And this week's Anna attempted rape, her changing gears from her face on the ground, until her spitting out the zipper. |

It'll be interesting to see if there's any fallout in regards to the BL manga Ayame had created and distributed about Tanukichi and Goriki. It seems to be a point of hypocrisy on her part and the show, as mad as its been, has been careful enough on some points to make me think that isn't an oversight or a the expression of an opinion that creating unauthorized porn of a real person and distributing it to people who they interact with daily is OK.

So why haven't SOX tried blackmailing Anna yet? They're terrorists but they're not interested in being successful terrorists?
I've made it up to episode 4 which should and I mean should have caused Ayame to shift SOX's focus around towards their poster girl but just looking at the following episodes plots, Anna's only being used for humor? What the fox? My impression from the first episode was that they were trying to go for a Orwell/Gilliam parody- but Brazil is a parody 1984 already which is one problem- but they weren't willing to go the full death squad, sterilization or lobotomy route as punishment which is another problem; Escalation and extremes are the foundations of this kind of satire. So the cost of rebelling? The same as getting caught in the act itself. A course of action occurs to me with that but the fact that SOX is led by one guy and one girl with personal video equipment seems to slip right by Ayame somehow. Otome needs practical models in a simulation? Get the stalker cause Ayame won't do it but what I don't get is why doesn't Okuma try drag her into it. Turnabout is fair play except her body is sacred while his isn't? Ayame talks the talk and she wants to get other people into walking the walk but she draws a line at some point. If I give the show credit, it's not because she's all innocent but it's because she's always been next to Anna and no one's taken the time to look at her as an object of desire. So she vents all her frustration as just some dirty talk but when the focus gets closer to what her actual desire is, she gets all flustered. If I don't give the show credit, it's just a character flaw to make the audience and Okuma go "Aww, she is kind of cute!" when compared to Anna because it's not as if anime needs another Yamada. But the difference is that Yamada has some sense of how she appeals to guys while Ayame wears a white sheet in her disguise to attract attention.... while wearing a full body white swimsuit under it because I doubt she's nude? She'd get further along in her plans just by wearing a skimpy bikini, with a bikini bottom over head. Not the bikini bottom, pervs... Maybe? Anyway. In short, she herself should be the main weapon in her plan. But it's unfair to me that I'd have to watch the entire series to find out if the reason is that she can't or she won't. Also it is possible Anna is too far gone to blackmail. Granted she is currently concealing her predatory antics but she is so whacked out who knows what she would do if someone tried to put that kind of pressure on her. |

Also Anna thinks she is just, you really do not make a difference to them if you attack them as a bad guy.
I imagine the only way to get to Anna will to be to show that the entire time she has been wanting what she has been fighting against. That her actions are currently unhealthy and with the right things she might be as happy without negatively affecting others. At this point I think our main character is turned right off of Anna, well to begin with his affection seemed to be based on the idea of her being a perfect pure maiden, which maybe there is a message there. |

Episode 8
I had been having a fear, that the obviously strict person from the Decency committee, the girl in the white uniform called Tsukimigusa, would create a huge down on the series as she enforces the rules hard. How wrong I could have been. She grabs a bunch of things to confiscate, but it goes to a ridiculous degree in showing that she has a dirtier mind than even Ayame, making her jealous. I totally lost it when shown the yaoi comics all it took was being told an obvious lie that she would believe it and allow the book to be excluded. And lets not forget that Anna apparently spent the entire night holding a knife and watching Okuma sleep when she found him sleeping next a girl. And girl, just go to the toilet. Am I odd for thinking Gouriki was kind of cute with how he was acting around Okuma? No homo. |

I'm kind of hoping for a bit of character development on the MC. I'd really like to see him make some real attempts at escaping his current predicaments. Especially with Kosuri being as large of a problem as she is and Anna spiraling further in to madness you'd think there has to be breaking point.
I do really enjoy that what Tanukichi sees in Ayame is the same thing he originally saw in Anna. |

I thought it was a rather adroitly, if unsubtle, illustration of what seems to be Shimoneta's basic message: the inherent absurdity of the prudish moralists. It is a subject obviously important to this writer. This episode made me recall hearing or reading somewhere that Victorian British families would purchase cloth leggings for the pianos because they considered their shapes too lewd and/or suggestive. I grew up in a house with such a piano and for the life of me I could never figure out what the attraction was. Another case was when Jerry Falwell was certain that Teletubbies was some kind of sex show. I thought I was dirty minded but I have long realized then that the prudes were capable of making connections that I was not capable of originating. I didn't think Ayame was as jealous as she was inspired.
Yeah, this. I would say any crush he once had on Anna is pretty much over with. He's lucky he found out before he was committed to her. |

I just caught up to ep 8 and this show is very clever. It wears its heart on its sleeve but it's also full of contradictions, but in ways that I find attractive--for instance, it's ostensibly all about sex and sex education, pornography, dirty jokes, etc, but there is almost no actual fanservice of any of the show's characters. Despite this, it feels so much more honest to me than a show that's all about fanservice and fetishes under the surface of cute girls doing cute things or pretty boys playing sports. Shimoneta has also been addressing common anime fetishes in show and mocking them in satirical ways. For example, I appreciate the mockery they're making of the "imouto" fetish with Kosuri. It's such a great critique of all those My Little Sister Can't Be This Unusual shows (and manga, and doujin, and ovas...). The Goriki/Okuma manga in-show seems to be a mockery of how fujoshi tend to write explicit doujin for even the most innocent or unlikely pairings (although actual Goriki's crush on Okuma is quite sweet).
The plot is definitely better than it has to be, the supporting cast of quirky girls really add to the humor, and every character besides Anna acts consistently in a way that suggests solid writing and characterization. Kojo in particular has shown herself to have lines she will not cross, but also some prudish double standards (girls can't masturbate? Huh?) and a naiveté she's hiding under her innuendo filled bravado that just ring true when you consider her teenaged virginal status and her discomfort at getting too personal. |
