Still...I think Rebecca is being way too generous and merciful on her evaluation of AZ's ending.
Yeah, maybe a fitting one for the messy pacing overall, but still... |

Yep they just had to invalidate the entire two seasons with the last two making everything a complete waste of time. How this can get a passing when a merely subpar sequel to an equally subpar show gets an 'F' I couldn't tell you so I'm just gonna leave it as Rebecca being Rebecca as always. Thank you, Rebecca, for validating why I gave up on this show after episode 8 (it would have been episode 4 but I wanted to be fair). And thank you Aniplex for overpricing these sets (I usually pony up the bucks if I like a series via this outfit) to the point where even a touch of senility wouldn't sway my creaky, dusty old wallet from releasing that shiny new chip-encrusted cc to the light of an A-Z redemption.

Any hard data on how well the series (both season) did in japan? The general response I usually see for it is between average to mediocre but I'm wondering if it did well in japan.

This is one of the few anime that I hate. The shows characters and plot are just so stupid. You are totally right that this series should have ended at episode 12, to me that would honestly be perfect. Inaho was just such a dumb character. Oh the cool silent type that can make ridiculous leaps of logic to save the day. spoiler[Him becoming basically a robot in season two is perfectly fitting, matching his robotic personality.]

It might have something to do with the said "merely subpar" series you're referring to being reviewed by someone else entirely. But yess, this was indeed a terrible series. |

Didn't finish the 1st series. Had no feeling for any of the characters and generally lost interest.

Wow I don't agree with this review, Aldnoah Zero was actually pretty awesome from start to finish, the ending was perfectly fine to me so I don't know where this idea of it being "rushed" comes from. Also
>overall C >production values get high scores Why bother rating animation and music again? This is pretty much A material. I'd call it best of 2014, but Nobunaga The Fool exists so.... Yeah. |

Personally I didn't really care for the story of Season 2 but I did like Season 1. What kept me watching was the fact that I thought the Martian Kataphrakts were very cool (well I personally thought Saazbaum's mech was the lamest since it was just all the others before combined. It also made it seem stupid how ALL of the other ones had only one special ability while his had three) except for some glaringly obvious design/strategic flaws (I'm looking at you Femianne and Mazuurek). I personally feel that they should have left Orlane's Deucalion's anti-gravity ability for another mech they actually fought since it would actually would be much more versatile than most of the other abilities we see. I would have liked it better if all the characters that "died" in the Season 1 finale actually died since it felt like the writers were just trying to extend the story with Season 2.
Overall I thought Season 2 was a bit of a let down because Inaho was still overpowered and made the rest of the Earth soldiers seem like incompetent idiots and the Martians look like they were "one-trick ponies" (which to be fair they were). |

This show was decent at the start, starting crumbling after, and shattered into dust in the second half. A terrible waste of my time. That ending was one of the worst I've seen in recent memory. But the build up to it was already bad.

I hate to admit this, but and some of the mecha design and battle scenes do somehow justify the sales (and why I watch it to begin with). |

Because some people - actually, a lot of people - do care about those two categories in particular, and want to know specifically how good or bad they are. I'm not such a person but from time to time even I find music and animation grades useful.
I would like to believe that you're just kidding with that comment, I really would... |

Why? Nobunaga The Fool is the best anime of 2014 and it is the second best of the decade only after Aquarion Logos, it his every note it was supposed to, everything was consistent, it took a specific style (in this case theatrical) and executed it amazingly, it was actually serious, there was plenty of action, the production values were top notch, and nobody in the cast did anything bad. In fact the only reason I don't put it in my top ten is because the music was subpar (a historical-based Sci-fi series with thematic tones and you got JAM Project? I like them too, but they just weren't fitting and like everyone they can be hit and miss).
I'd love to meet people other than me that take those seriously, at least ones that don't go "plot and characters are everything". |

UQ Holder! GN 4
manga
UQ Holder finally finds its feet in this volume, demonstrating far more drama, fun, and creativity than ever before.
― I knew this manga was worth believing in. In spite of its lackluster early volumes, I knew Akamatsu had it in him to make a truly satisfying shounen manga, one that demonstrated all the passion and creativity that occasionally glimmered through in Negima. It's taken a while, but UQ H...

ALDNOAH.ZERO Blu-Ray 4
anime
ALDNOAH.ZERO tries just a little too hard to wrap everything up in a bow in these last six episodes, and while it works, it lacks any major impact.
― I very rarely say this, but in the case of Aldnoah.Zero, I firmly believe it: the show should have ended after episode twelve. While it would have been a depressing ending, it also would have made a point and kept its characters fairly interesting and r...

C³ BD+DVD
anime
C3 is a surprisingly entertaining take on some well-worn action-fanservice territory.
― Released five years ago now, C³ was one of Silver Link's earliest productions, before they were renowned for… well, making a whole lot of shows exactly like C³. The show falls in the timeless “action-fanservice adaptation themed around torture/bondage gear” subgenre, which has more recently featured the legitimate...

Review: The Empire of Corpses
anime
In select theaters now, The Empire of Corpses succeeds as a rip-roaring adventure story, even if its philosophical pretensions aren’t quite up to snuff.
― The easy, almost foolproof way of testing your appetite for The Empire of Corpses would be to ask: are you a fan of The League of Extraordinary Gentleman (the comics, not the film)? Does that kind of turn of the century steampunk aesthetic entice y...
