A great set for fans of the show

As someone who buys a lot of AniplexUSA sets I generally know what I am going to get with it and this set brings it up a bit. The box, with artwork from the japenese release, is a soft-box (paper-stock box) that really causes all of the colors to really pop. It also has a really nice smooth texture that I can't stop rubbing my fingers over. They also put a thicker piece of paper on the bottom of the box to prevent the box from getting wear and tear when you bring it off the shelf or when you need to move it.

The BDs and CD both come in 2 jewel (clear) cases that feature artwork from the Japanese releases (vols 1,3,5) and the soundtrack features some of the background art on the inside of the case. The video quality of the BDs is amazing as usual and the soundtrack is the same as the one released in Japan.

If you are a fan of the show or a fan of AniplexUSA's release then this is a must buy!

Amazing series, but packaging lacking.

Your Lie in April was a show I was excited about before it aired, but I put off watching. I'm glad I did, because I ended up watching the whole thing over a weekend, and loved it. I'm not usually one to get emotional over media, but the catharsis in this show destroyed me, in a good way. I know some people had issues with the way certain characters were presented, but I found them to be pretty complete people that the series really made me feel for, despite (and probably because of) their shortcomings and flaws.

Because this is a favorite, I was willing to pay the price. However, the box and physical extras leave a little to be desired. I love that it is a more substantial set given the two cases, but Aniplex needs to cut it out with the flimsy cardboard cases. The art is beautiful, but the back art should take up more space. The postcards feature nice art, but they are a little small. This is the perfect show to include a soundtrack for, so no complaints there.

Amazing Show in a Pricey Box Set

Your Lie in April is an amazing show about a boy who doubts his piano abilities until a girl shoves him out of his comfort zone and gets him to comepete again.

While the show is one of my favorites, the price for the first half of the series is pretty steep. The English dub is good, but the extras you get is a nice little box with postcards and a music disc.

Another fantastic release from Aniplex

Your Lie in April is a great series to those looking for a good drama with excellent visuals and audio. This release is the first of two sets from Aniplex of America and comes in two G2-sized BD cases housed in a cardstock art box with a transparent obi.

While the artwork is beautiful on both the art box and the disks, the art box is yet again made of flimsy cardstock which I am not a fan of. While Aniplex of America offers the best when it comes to disk authoring, seeing flimsy housing for such an expensive release feels like a shot at the fans when other publishers offer chipboard art boxes at little cost to the buyer.

The English dub for the series is what you would expect from an Aniplex release and does well at both the comedic and drama moments in the series. I would recommend this set to those who are fans of the series and wish to own it.

This is a great show. It has a compelling story, likeable (and relateable) characters, plus absolutely gorgeous visuals. I enjoyed the original Japanese first but found a top notch dub that was worth watching to really see and feel everything. The box has beautiful art and is a very high quality, I look forward to more releases like this from AoA, where the stuff that really counts is excellent.

Cost is high but well worth it

While I do agree that the price is substantial, I knew coming in that it was Aniplex. The box itself is nice, with original artwork from the artist. The soundtrack is a nice touch, since the music in this series is incredible. Although there is only 11 episodes in this first set, it does come in multiple discs w/nice artwork laid out on each disc (not just a bland color saying disc one), and I do feel the quality of the product is much higher than other sets I personally have. As for the show quality, you won't find better animation out there. I highly recommend this show. If you think you can hold off and wait for less costly version, more power to you, but this one, to me, was well worth it

I Still Don't Understand Why It Cost So Much

When I first dished out $130 I knew the set wouldn't hold up to the cost. But what I got was pretty pathetic. It comes with THREE small postcards. Most of the songs are less than 2 minutes long on the soundtrack (it honestly should have come with the entire soundtrack for the price I paid). But the worst part of all was the flimsiness of the box itself. It's so cheap. You know it barely cost Aniplex anything to make these sets, yet they are charging an extremely high price. It's difficult for me to find this acceptable.

Might be worth it!

I was pretty excited for this release initially. I really enjoyed YLIA and, more specifically, I LOVE the OST, so the fact that AoA was including it pretty much sold me on this release. Well.... unfortunately, it turns out that the OST that is included is just 10 tracks, or roughly 1/6 of the Japanese release. The 2nd Blu-ray set from AoA is set to have another 10 or so tracks, so really, it's not the entire sound track. It's actually not even half of it. Other than that, the extras are slim. You get two really oddly shaped almost mini-postcards as well as English dub cast commentary for episode one. And that's it. So, why buy this set? Well, the English dub is great, the packaging is gorgeous, and while it's not a chipboard box, the artwork is beautiful and the resealable plastic sleeve will keep it looking great. Other than that, the video quality is perfect. This set is a trophy for people who really like this show. If your love exceeds $130, buy it.

The main issue I have is that it didnt even include the entire disc 1 of the soundtrack, this only has 10 tracks when the soundtrack one has 33 on disc 1, not happy about this

Part 1 of my second favorite anime of all time

Not taking into consideration the cost, which has no bearing on the quality of the product, Part 1 of Your Lie In April is jam packed with so much content that the price is practically justifiable. First, the first 11 episodes of the anime are all beautifully rendered, compressed and edited out for an HD release and the newly released English Dub is on equal odds with the Japanese dub in terms of superiority and is one of the best English dubs of an anime that I've ever seen. Capturing every character and personality correctly, this is truly a must see in both English and Japanese. Second, the box includes a separate soundtrack of the anime consisting of the musical score by Masaru Yokoyama, which I can take with me anywhere I go to listen to arguably some of the greatest music in anime history. The fact that this also comes with a collectable little box to store both items in, plus bonus features and postcards only make me love this release even more than I already do.

Can't deny the price is high on this, but this anime is in my top 5. So when it came time to buy I didn't hesitate. You don't really get much for the money, but overall I am happy.

What's its value to you?

Your Lie in April blu ray set 1 greatly captures this series in gorgeous hd with the colors being extremely vibrant and bright. Although the story is one of the best I have seen, what is important to note is the price you pay to own it. While Aniplex blu ray prices typically run up on the higher end, I can't necessarily justify the pricing as its high point as other companies released box sets for considerably less, but as a collector myself, the price is not as bad as compared to other high end blu rays, especially imports I have bought in the past. The fact that the first 11 episodes are in one box set as opposed to other releases that only contain perhaps 4 or 5 episodes on blu ray is one of the good points about it despite the lack of bonus content. In the end, I think its value ultimately falls with your willingness to add this into your collection and how big a fan of the series you are.
