Template-protected edit request on 18 April 2015[edit]

Can someone add Oil and gas industry in Burma and Natural gas and petroleum in Bangladesh? Thanks

In the Petroleum in Asia template.

Merchant of Asia (talk) 00:18, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Not sure what you're asking for. Do you want a new navbox created? Alakzi (talk) 00:36, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
I'm not sure why a petroleum template redirects here. The one at the bottom of this page. Can't edit it.--Merchant of Asia (talk) 00:43, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
The way this navbox works is by prefixing a string of words in front of a country name. The easiest thing to do would be to create redirects from Petroleum industry in Burma and Petroleum industry in Bangladesh. Alakzi (talk) 00:50, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
Thanks again.--Merchant of Asia (talk) 01:05, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Sovereign states[edit]

Can anyone change this into "UN members"? This can make sure there are less disbutes. --Owennson (talk) 07:50, 26 May 2015 (UTC)

I'm not too sure about changing the header of the first group from "sovereign states" to "UN members" in the continent-topic templates (1 2 3 4). Vatican City is now listed as a UN member in Template:Europe topic, which it isn't. SiBr4 (talk) 15:43, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
@Owennson: I have reverted your changes to these templates. Please be sure to establish consensus before changing such widely used templates. I like your idea of reducing the disputes about which countries may be sovereign or not, but unilateral changes are probably going to cause an equal amount of drama. And there are other things that need to be considered: e.g. the status of the Vatican, or the general structure of these templates. If we have a list of UN members, how does the section of "states with limited recognition" and "dependencies" fit into it? A logical sorting would be "UN members" vs "Non-UN-members". The Indonesia section should link to the article Names of Indonesia instead of Indonesia  Gunkarta  talk  08:43, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

Red information icon with gradient background.svg Not done: This is a meta-template; {{Asia topic|Name of}} correctly links to Name of Indonesia. Alakzi (talk) 11:11, 4 July 2015 (UTC)

There are a lot of wikilinks in this area without a target page to land upon. And guessing after a small talk with a host at the teahouse I am submitting this request to have these links removed since this page has been flagged for this problem in the past (2008) and I for being a regular user, cannot correct them myself. This area seems to be too old for these links to soon all have a page to target so could this please be resolved? Thank you so much for at least reading my request! CoolInu43 (talk) 22:12, 11 July 2015 (UTC) CoolInu43 (talk) 22:12, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

This template has no facility to omit red links. You can individually hide red links by specifying a two-letter country code as blank, e.g. |TR=. If this must be done for a large number of links, you'd be better of wrapping the template in another template. Alakzi (talk) 22:24, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

The "Bangladesh" in this template directs to the page List of cities in Bangladesh. However, that page is merely a redirect to List of cities and towns in Bangladesh. Due to this, the template that appears in the cities and towns page does not show "Bangladesh" bold and unlinked.

What I would request is that the "Bangladesh" on the template be linked to the cities and towns page directly (instead of being linked to the redirect page). I know little about editing on templates and I am quite sure you know how to get it done but I still created a sample of how I would like it on the template sandbox. My edit there is a bit of an eyesore, but I believe an eyesore is better kept in the source than in actual articles and templates. This is a general template that is used for many other topics than lists of cities. Use |BD=List of cities and towns in Bangladesh when using the navbox to change the link; you can do this in a wrapper template and then use that in each "List of cities in ..." article. SiBr4 (talk) 17:18, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
Thank you and sorry for the silly request. As I said, I don't really know much about how these templates worked. Your help and guidance was appreciated. Thanks again! Z-small-VA-64x88.svgRihaz (Talk to meStuff I didGlobal Info) 17:25, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

Note: I sought to change the template showing "Land reform in Asia" which displays at Land Bank of the Philippines and elsewhere. But I clicked to edit it, I am brought to editing the "Asia topic" template. If this request should be put elsewhere, pls. do let me know. --doncram

Because a link target (Land reform in Vietnam) has been changed to a disambiguation page, this template should be updated. Change from the current Vietnam line:

to two lines, one for Land reform in North Vietnam and one for Land reform in South Vietnam.

By the way, I don't see why this template should be under edit protection since 2008. Time to take protection off. It could be restored if necessary, but there is no reason to expect rampant vandalism. --doncram 04:20, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

This issue cannot be solved by editing {{Asia topic}}. One solution would be to write a special-purpose navbox {{Land reform in Asia}}, which could also reduce the clutter by listing only the six countries for which there is a working link. Also I think Land reform in Vietnam is a set index article not a disambiguation page, and I have tagged it thus.
If you look through this talk page and its archives, you'll see many rejected edit requests from editors who have misunderstood the purpose of the template or who have a political point to make. So I don't think reducing the protection would be a good idea. You could ask at WP:RFPU, of course. -- John of Reading (talk) 05:01, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your kind and helpful response. I obviously did not understand how template:Asia topic worked. After your response and my reading further in Asia topic's documentation, I then considered creating a separate nav template for Land reform in Asia, and taking that entirely out of the {{Asia topic}} system. But I like your solution to convert the dab page Land reform in Vietnam to a set index article, which can and should be developed a bit. It is better to have just one navlink to Vietnam and to explain the past pre-unification land reform efforts in one place where ancient plus post-reunification land reform efforts can be described, too. That's great, thank you! And your edit already has taken Land reform in Vietnam off a worklist of disambiguation pages having links that seemed especially problematic, and had not been resolved despite being identified as a problem for 2 or more months. Sincerely, --doncram 15:34, 20 July 2015 (UTC)

Can you please fix this article's wrong information Cabinet of South Korea to State Council of South Korea?

Thank you and have a good day Mailzzang+aus (talk) 03:06, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

@Mailzzang+aus: I've made an edit to Template:Politics of South Korea, replacing "Cabinet" with "State Council". This is displayed at the top right of many articles about South Korea. Was that the error you noticed? If not, please post again here with more details - in which article are you seeing the error, and where in the article? -- John of Reading (talk) 06:40, 5 August 2015 (UTC)

Burma to Myanmar[edit]
