#MuseumCats is our new favourite Twitter hashtag
We know you’re probably thinking ‘more cats on the Internet? YAWN’ right now, but hear us out – you’re about to fall in love with #MuseumCats. The hashtag’s being used on Twitter by institutes across the world to share pictures of artefacts, artwork and architecture involving cats.
Museums as widespread as Berlin’s Pergamon Museum, New York’s Guggenheim Museum and the Australian Museum have got involved with the hashtag so far – as have a whole host of London’s finest attractions.
The Horniman Museum, The British Museum, the Tate and the Geffrye have all shared snaps. The Wiener Library’s got involved, as has St Paul’s Cathedral, the V&A, the Royal College of Physicians and even the Fan Museum – that’s the only museum in the UK devoted to the craft of the fan, in case you didn’t know.
Posts have featured The Wellcome Collection’s painting of a monkey shaving a cat, a stuffed cheetah from the Horniman, the Bishopgate Insitute’s ‘Suffragette Cat’ illustration and The British Museum’s minx. (The snap above was shared by the Geffrye Museum. It’s a Christmas card from 1905.) Plus, loads of the museums have been entertaining us with digital LOLs about who has the biggest, prettiest, oldest and coolest museum cats in town.
