Catch the Edinburgh Festival Fringe at your local Odeon

Tonight sees the start of an eight-date run of theatre, comedy, music and visual arts, being beamed from this month’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe into 30 Odeon cinemas across the country (for Londoners, it’s the Odeon Covent Garden).
Known as Hibrow Hour, the programme for these shows transmitted from Edinburgh’s Summerhall venue by the digital arts platform hibrow.tv includes an opera called ‘La Trashiata’ from Alison Jackson (the artist best known for her celebrity lookalike photographs) and a show from theatre and film legend Steven Berkoff.
The first screening, taking place tonight (Monday August 4), will be ‘The Dispute’, a new version of Marivaux’s ‘La Dispute’, directed by the National Theatre’s Emily Kempson. The play is said to chronicle ‘a bold scientific experiment in which four babies are raised in isolation for 18 years before being released to discover a world of seduction, deception and the dark, labyrinthine recesses of human nature and sexual desire. Shows last 90 minutes and include a round-up of everything else going on at the Edinburgh festivals – all of which means you can now catch the excitement of Edinburgh in August without having flyers thrust into your face by over-eager drama students.
