Therein lies the rub: get down to Jerk Off at the Queen of Hoxton

Posted at 3:00 pm, August 2, 2014 in Food & Drink

Nothing gets the juices flowing like a grill and a pair of barbecue tongs. And that’s just in the relative safety of your own garden. Throw in a competitive element and the sparks can quite literally fly. Expect fireworks on the roof of the Queen Of Hoxton tomorrow (Sunday August 3) as some of London’s finest proponents of jerk chicken clash in Jerk Off 2014 (yes, you read that correctly).

Notting Hill’s Boom Burger’s Jamaican flavours will face off against the Trinidadian-accented rubs of Fish, Wings & Tings. Mama’s Jerk Station and White Men Can’t Jerk complete the impressive line-up of jerk cooks.

The brilliant Normski, he of the 1980s, will play host for the afternoon/evening as the jerkers’ secret rub and marinade recipes face the ultimate test. The winner of the day, chosen by you the audience, will be crowned Jerk Off champions, a title we’ve all aspired to at some point.

A tenner gets you a ticket, which guarantees entry before 3pm and includes a piece of chicken from each of the competitors and two Wray & Nephew rum drinks. Once the winner has lifted the trophy, the action switches to the ground floor, where the afterparty goes on till midnight with drinks aplenty to cool any still-burning lips.
