Found Footage Festival

Have you heard of the Found Footage Festival? If not, you’re in for a treat. Curators Joe Pickett and Nick Prueher have been scouring charity shops, car boot sales, bins and everywhere in between to find the weirdest and most wonderful VHS gems known to man. They’re back for a stonking tenth anniversary show on August 1 and 2 at the Leicester Square Theatre where they’ll be showing off their latest finds. To get you in the mood, we asked them for some of their all-time faves (and why). And here they are. Sit back and prepare to LOL.

Dancing with Frank Pacholski

‘Perhaps the weirdest video we’ve ever found, “Dancing with Frank Pacholski” is a 1999 cable access show from Los Angeles that only aired twice before being pulled off the air. We actually hired a private detective to track this guy down, paid a lot of money to fly across the country and interview him, and we left with more questions than we arrived with.’

What I Want

‘Fact: Northern California is America’s leading exporter of New Age bullshit. This spiritual retreat from the early 90s asked attendees what the really wanted and, predictably, it was writing books about angels.’

Blessercise

‘Getting fit is easy when the Lord is on your side! Host Marie Chapian blasts her quads and blasts demons in this 1986 fitness video.’

Chef Keith

‘Technically not found footage, we actually orchestrated this fake chef prank on breakfast TV shows in the States last fall using our expertise from watching hundreds of hours of awkward videos. We aimed to make the most awkward television appearances we could by making gross concoctions on-air and asking the hosts to try them. Four out of five of them did! In London, we’ll be debuting some never-before-seen Chef Keith footage.’

And here’s the trailer for their latest show:
