Witness a vinyl resurrection this Easter at Record Store Day

Sure, this weekend is supposed to be a celebration of Christ’s resurrection but quite frankly there’s now a bigger bash kicking off in town. Stealing Jesus’ thunder big time this Bank Holiday is Record Store Day, a day of festivities thrown in the name of independent music shops across the globe. Forget egg-hunting, bunny-petting and church-going this Saturday (Apr 19) and join some of the Record Store Day merrymaking that’s set to take place throughout the capital.

Bringing some bass to central London this RSD is Berwick Street’s specially-planned mini festival, which sees the road close to make room for two stages, an array of food stalls (Pizza Pilgrims has already confirmed its pitch) and record stalls. This year’s headliner is ’80s pop pirate Adam Ant, while Orange Juice frontman Edwyn Collins and northern soul spinner DJ Andy Smith make up just some of the many names in support.

It’s not just Soho that gets into the swing of RSD. Both Rough Trade stores (Notting Hill and Shoreditch), as expected, are putting on a superb selection of sets – Toy (Shoreditch), East India Youth (Shoreditch) and Slow Club (Notting Hill) are all set to perform live in-store across the day. Up in Camden, punk and hardcore specialists All Ages Records will be selling an exclusive series of limited edition, handmade releases, whereas at Casbah Records in Greenwich, music garb fans can bag one-off RSD T-shirts and badges. Many more music and vinyl shops will be hosting DJ sets and record-related events, so hands off the chocolate and hands in the air for Record Store Day this Easter holiday. Liz Darke
