Free ice cream on the South Bank: around the world in 80 scoops

80 scoops

Ok so it’s a tad grey and rainy right now, but believe it or not there is a heatwave coming (fingers crossed). Anyway, who cares about a spot of rain, it’s always ice cream weather. And thanks to those super-cool guys at Insure and Go you can get one completely FREE at the South Bank this weekend.

Not just any old ice cream, either. They’ve got some pretty weird and wonderful flavours going on, each one inspired by a different country to help you feel like you’re on holiday. Ecuador’s custard ice cream with pineapple and melon sauce, topped with meringue sounds particularly great. Poland’s sweet ice cream with beetroot sauce and pickles sounds like a taste sensation, but the jury is still out on Japan’s squid ink ripple ice cream.

They’ll be serving up free scoops from today until Sunday July 13 (11am-7pm) so there’s plenty of time to take your tongue backpacking. To help you chill, there’ll also be hammocks, a pagoda and plenty of entertainment throughout out the weekend. Go on Friday for Venetian ballerinas, Saturday for Chinese musicians and Sunday for a steel pan serenade.

If that squid ink ice cream inspires you to invent your own flavour inspired by your travels, tweet it with #80scoops @InsureandGo or post on the Facebook page for the chance to win a supply of your own ice cream. Rossi will make it and they’ll also give you a tour of their factory.

Not floating your boat? Take a look at the best ice cream in London.
