Freelance Online Photo Editor

POSITION OVERVIEW: New York Media is looking for a full-time freelance online photo editor for a new photo-driven web series about celebrities. The photo editor will be responsible for sourcing and creating multiple photo-driven posts daily and maintaining an Instagram account. This is an on-site project with a six-month contract. We are looking for someone who can work independently to build upon and execute our vision.

RELEVANT SKILLS

  • A keen curatorial eye for funny, surprising and newsworthy images

Integrated Marketing Manager

JOB OBJECTIVE:

The Integrated Marketing Manager in the Creative Services Department of New York Media develops multiplatform marketing strategies to meet and exceed the needs of our clients and help generate new business in assigned categories. Acting as a central point of contact for New York magazine and our digital platforms (nymag.com, Vulture, The Cut, Grub Street) advertising sales staff, he/she will leverage the broad range of New York Media brand assets—print, digital, branded content, social media, and events—to create engaging, multiplatform opportunities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conceptualizing and articulating creative ideas in response to RFPs from clients and for overall sales development initiatives
  • Oversee the delivery and execution of several programs with multiple advertisers at any given time
  • Collaborate with the Social Media Manager/Branded Content Manager as well as other appropriate team members to develop "Never Been Done Before" integrated marketing programs
  • Maintain and monitor proposal logs and budget allocations
  • Generate production schedules, manage deadlines, handle client updates, and approvals
  • Oversee requests to the art department for creative materials, including proposal mock-ups, digital ad campaigns, microsites, invites, signage, recaps, sell sheets, etc.
  • Position reports to the Integrated Creative Services Director

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years digital/print/interactive experience delivering multi-channel communications programs

Special Events Manager

Location: New York City

The Special Events Manager will be responsible for developing and executing events that drive and supplement business for New York Media - and that drive engagement and build relationships with consumers, advertisers and clients on behalf of New York Media. This position will work directly with the Special Events Director and within the Creative Services department of the media company. The position is one that works cross-functionally across multiple departments within the company, including sales, editorial, audience development and public relations – executing initiatives based on client objectives or the objectives of New York Media. The ideal candidate must be a resourceful, creative thinker, and an experienced event marketing professional, with strong hands-on experience planning and executing events in a variety of formats.

Job Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and execute custom events for advertisers/clients of New York Media; correspond directly with advertiser with regard to the details and timeline of their events; work closely with the creative department of New York Media on the design and production of creative elements associated with the event (such as the invitation and on-site creative); field and manage RSVPs for custom events, providing regular updates to the advertiser and to the New York Media sales rep managing the account; coordinate all event elements including venue sourcing, catering, photography, design/florals, specialty elements such as DJ or photo booth inclusions and on-site staff management
  • Manage elements of New York Media’s signature events including New York Taste, Grub Street Food Festival, New York Weddings Event, New York Culinary Experience and Vulture Festival – including correspondence with event participants, the event’s production timeline and the event’s promotional schedule
  • Work closely with New York Media’s creative department on the production of event-related creative elements (advertisements, email blasts, banner ads, social media creative) as promotional support of New York Media’s signature events
  • Manage and reconcile event budgets
  • Negotiate rates with vendors
  • Consistently research new venues, event trends and event vendors; build upon arsenal of valuable event vendors and contacts as resources for New York Media
  • Manage an up-to-date event calendar and route monthly to New York Media management
  • Manage and support key cultural partnerships in which New York Media acts as a Media Sponsor for a cultural event or group; executing deliverables as promised in contracts/agreements with cultural entities (such as booking advertisements, email blasts, coordinating on-site brand presence for New York Media)
  • Work closely with internal business or audience development teams to establish, meet and measure the marketing and business objectives of New York Media events
  • Propose creative solutions for improving communication systems and processes within the company
  • Work cross-functionally within the company to support other event priorities as needed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years in strategic events, ideally in media space
  • Strong understanding of event production
  • Ability to work with vendors to bring creative event ideas to life while maintaining control of budget
  • Ability to develop creative ideas and implement marketing tactics
  • Strong communication skills – written and verbal
  • Ability to manage a significant workload and adhere to tight deadlines

  • Javascript: Love Javascript. Walking the DOM is a walk in the park. "Use Strict" isn't optional for you. Node.js and NPM are just plain fun.
  • Images: Have opinions on the best use of GIFs, JPGs, PNGs, SVG, Icon Fonts and whether they should be in a sprite sheet, base64-encoded, data:inlined, linked or not used at all. Deliver retina images when needed, and not a pixel more.
  • Frameworks: Know when they save you time, when they get in the way, and how to spot frameworks that aren't worth the trouble.
  • Git: Know when rebasing is your best friend, and when it can get you into hot water.

Interaction Designer

New York Media's digital UX team is looking for a talented designer to join our series of award-winning digital publications.

You will work alongside members of our product development team on a variety of projects across our family of sites: NYMag.com, Vulture, The Cut, Science of Us, and Grub Street. You will be expected to produce creative and effective solutions that exhibit stylistic breadth, balance innovation and usability, solve fundamental business needs, and maintain and evolve the visual and user experience standards of New York on the web.

Candidates must collaborate well across teams of varied disciplines, working closely with editorial, product, technology, sales, marketing, and production departments. Candidates must also demonstrate expertise for design, typography, and composition when designing for web products as well as a deep understanding of web design best practices including responsive design. A strong grasp of HTML and CSS fundamentals is required.

We are considering both freelance-to-perm and full time candidates for this role.

This position is based at our SoHo office in New York, NY.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conceive and execute highly effective visual and interactive designs for new user-facing features of our web sites.
  • Collaborate with designers, product owners, and editors to develop successful design strategies.
