New South Wales fans will breathe a sigh of relief at hearing Parramatta coach Brad Arthur is set to rest State of Origin superstar Jarryd Hayne from tonight's NRL clash with Penrith.

Hayne admitted he had never been so fatigued physically and mentally after his man-of-the-match effort for the Blues to orchestrate their epic State of Origin win in Brisbane on Wednesday night.

Blues fans remember only too well how, after NSW's game one win in Sydney last year, Hayne suffered a hamstring injury three days later for the Eels against the Sydney Roosters that ruled him out of the rest of the Origin series.

Fortunately, new Eels coach Arthur does too.

"If you look back at last year, I think he started on the bench so I'm not sure if that helped," Arthur said.

Arthur planned to consult Hayne before making a final decision about tonight's match but indicated it was unlikely he would play.

"It was a big game and his load was big, so we will have to manage him when he gets back," Arthur said.

"It will come down to the advice we get from our medical staff.

"But we usually wouldn't ask him to train 48 hours after a game, so it would be a big ask to make him play. If we consider it a risk, we won't play him."

Lee Mossop has been named on an extended bench for the fourth-placed Eels against the third-placed Panthers but Arthur said the England international forward wasn't yet ready to make his NRL debut after two NSW Cup games following his recovery from a shoulder injury.

"Lee is going well. He is 18th man this week; we will give him another run at Wentworthville on Saturday," Arthur said.

"It is a big ask for him to travel over -- he was injured when he first got here.

"He has to get used to the speed of the game and I'm sure it won't be long before he is in the team."
