About

New Zealand's Games selectors decided to use the same criteria for Winter Games teams as for Summer. An athlete had to be able to finish in the top half of their field to gain selection. After a battle with athletes, the Games selectors relented and skiers Robin Armstrong, Stuart Blakely, Brett Kendall, Janet Wells and Sue Gibson had their nominations approved but the team fared badly. Gibson managed New Zealand's first top twenty result but her 19th placing was because that was the number of competitors in the slalom.
