A 65-year-old man has died after a tractor accident on the West Coast today.

The man suffered fatal chest injuries in the crash, that happened at Little Wanganui, 23km south of Karamea, about 10.45am, acting Inspector Mark Booth of southern police communications said.

The man died at the scene, Mr Booth said. It was not yet known what caused the crash.
