Description:

Wembley National Stadium is one of the most historical and famous stadiums in the world. It took a mere 300 days to build at a cost of £750,000 and originally had a capacity of 125,000. The original stadium was built in 1923 and in its first game played host to the FA Cup Final between Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United, for which over 200,000 people turned up at its gates and crammed into the stadium.

The stadium has been home to the England national team since its inauguration and has renovated on numerous occasions, major renovations include floodlights which were installed in 1955 and in 1963, the covering of the terraces for the 1966 world cup of which Wembley was the host for the controversial final where England beat West Germany 4-2. Electronic Scoreboards were also installed for the 1966 World Cup finals.

Webmley also played host to the 1948 Olympics and has played host to a number of music concerts and events on the sporting calender

The Original Wembley Stadium was demolished in the year 2000 to make way for a new Wembley stadium that will be the most expensive stadium in the world. For information about the development of the stadium check out the following link: -

Directions:

By Tube
The main tube stations for Wembley will be Wembley Park and Wembley Central all three stations are extremely close to the stadium with the stadium sign posted from all of them (although it should also be clearly visible as well). For the best view of the stadium Wembley Park is recommended. Wembley Park is on the Jubalee and Metropolitan lines, Wembley Central is on the Bakerloo line.

By Rail:
Any London station with an underground connection can be used to get to the stadium via the underground. It is recommended that you use the underground to get to the stadium. There is also the Wembley Stadium station that is located behind the station giving connections to the midlands and central London.

By Road:
It is not recommended to drive to the stadium due to heavy traffic volumes. Good advise it to drive to a suburb of London with tube access and get a tube train to Wembley.

If however you do decide to drive to Wembley the directions are below: -

The complex is situated close to the North Circular Road (A406), which provides easy access from four adjacent motorways - The M1, M4, M40 and M25. It also links with the A1 and A40 and southbound routes via the South Circular.

Parking:
On site parking is available for up to 6,000 cars and coaches.

By Air:
There are four International airports in London: Stanstead, Heathrow, Gatwick and London City. They all offer tube or rail access to the centre of the City - follow tube directions from there. London City airport is located close to theJubalee line which connects straight to Wembley.
