The Tears of St. Peter

St. Peter is sitting with his hands clasped together in front of his chest and looking upwards. In the background is the figure of Mary Magdalene with an angel seated on the tomb of Christ. According to Saint Luke's Gospel, Saint Peter denied Jesus on the night before his death, thus fulfilling Christ's prophecy. When Peter heard the cock crow after his betrayal, he remembered Jesus's words and 'went out and wept bitterly'. Size: 108 x 89.6 cm
