Road works forcing changes
Traffic flows will change around the site of the new roundabout in Riverside Dr this week onwards, as work on the project progresses.
Whangarei District Council Group Manager Infrastructure and Services Simon Weston said it would be "business as usual" during the peak morning and afternoon hours during the week, with a lane of traffic in either direction.
However, between 9am and 3.30pm the road would occasionally go to one lane, controlled by stop/go signs.
"During the past few weeks drivers will have seen the kerb and channelling going in on the Pohe Island side of the roundabout, the centre and traffic islands being formed.
"That side of the road is now several centimetres higher than the Parihaka side of the road.
"[This week] we will be forming the kerb and channelling on the Parihaka side of the road and starting to bring the road level up to match the other side."
The roundabout will take traffic on to the new $29million bridge across Whangarei Harbour.
