After racking up a pile of plaudits and trophies for her uber-successful album 21, it's no wonder that all eyes are on Adele for news of a follow-up.

So when can we expect to hear some new tunes from the songbird? She's working on it, according to a report in a British tabloid.

Per The Sun, the 24-year-old songstress is rumoured to be back in the recording studio and working with British producers/songwriters James Ford and Kid Harpoon on an "edgy" record.

"These lads have worked with Florence Welch, Arctic Monkeys and Jessie Ware," notes the tab.

"Adele wants to move with the times and is trying to make her new record sound as edgy as possible," adds a source.

"The team she's assembled is first rate and she's confident they can help match the success of her first two albums.

"It's no easy task as the world will be desperate to hear it."

The tab also speculates that if Adele "keeps to form", fans "should expect to hear the new album next year - when she'll be 25".

The singer's previous albums - 19 and 21 - were both titled as such to reflect her age at the time of their release.

Adele, who bagged an Academy Award for her Bond theme Skyfall in February, offered up a status update on her new album while backstage at the Grammys.

"I'm not very far along at all," she told Rolling Stone at the time. "I'm having lots of meetings, I've been in L.A. the whole time since the [Golden] Globes and I will be until the Oscars.

"So I'm having lots of meetings, but I've been out of the loop, really. I've just been singing my baby nursery rhymes, and I sort of don't even know what's cool and what's not.

"I'm definitely going to visit with Paul Epworth and talk about doing that again."

Epworth produced and co-wrote a number of tracks on 21, and collaborated with Adele on Skyfall.

The singer also told Showbiz 411's Roger Friedman: "We've been meeting with writers and talking but nothing is happening now. I'm a mother!" she said.

The Someone Like You singer gave birth to her first child with boyfriend Simon Konecki last October.

"I'm very into that. Also, I don't [know] what to write about yet. The last album [had a theme]."

Chimed Friedman: "You could just sing other people's songs."

"I could but I'm a writer. And I'm going to write it," replied the singer.

Speaking to the Mail Online during the Oscars, Adele dished that she was eager to start work on a new album.

When told that fans were desperate to hear some new material, she replied: "Tell me about it, so am I."

As for writing tracks, she added: "They'll come when they're ready, and when I've got something to sing about."

'NO ACTUAL TALKS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW'

In contrast to The Sun's report, OneRepublic frontman Ryan Tedder recently claimed that there are currently "no talks" taking place around Adele working on her eagerly anticipated third album.

Speaking to BBC Newsbeat in March, Tedder, who penned two songs with the star for 21, said: "At least as of last week, from the label, I've been told there is no actual talks happening right now - whatsoever."

He added: "I would just chill for a minute. She has a kid, she has been chilling and she should.

"At which point she wants to start working again I'm sure she'll kick it off with Epworth, I would assume, as I would."

Tedder went on to add that he was eager to work with the singer again, and has "a couple of ideas" when it comes to her new album.

"I would, of course, go in, in a heartbeat. I already have a couple of ideas. To me though it would come down to, 'OK, last album was bitter and heartbroken'," he said.

"That was the narrative. It's hard for me to even come up with ideas without knowing what the narrative would be now.

"Everything she does is so instantaneous, instant, real, authentic. The most I could possibly come up with would just be music. I'm not going to put words in her mouth for anything."

Wind your mind back to December 2011, and you'll recall Adele telling fans that they may have to wait for two or three years for her next album.

In an interview with Billboard, the singer said she was in no rush to release a follow-up to 21.

"I'm really looking forward to some time to do nothing. I imagine I'll be 25 or 26 by the time my next record comes out, as I haven't even thought about my third record yet," she explained at the time.

"I'm just gonna lay some concrete, set up home and just 'be' for a bit. I'll disappear and come back with a record when it's good enough. There will be no new music until it's good enough and until I'm ready."

Adele's camp has so far kept mum on the new album reports.
