It wasn't just Xtra emails being hit by scammers this week.

• A scam email has been circulating claiming to be from the "Clearnet customer unit", asking people to follow a link to validate their accounts.

• Other email accounts received a message telling them that their email providers' spam filters were being updated and they needed to reply with their email address, password and web login. The message warned that failure to respond could result in problems with internet access.

• Both of these scams are attempts to gain access to users' accounts to send out spam emails or install keystroke loggers to pick up information, such as bank account details.
