    America’s Music Ignites Sakhalin and Primorye

    On October 5-9, under the auspices of the U.S.-Russia Bilateral Presidential Commission the Tizer Band from Los Angeles consisting of four world renowned musicians gave concerts in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Nakhodka, and Vladivostok.

    U.S.-Russia Cooperation in Emergency Management

    Consul General Sylvia Reed Curran had the opportunity on October 8 to attend the third meeting of the U.S.-Russia bilateral Commission’s Working Group on cooperation in Emergency Management. It was also the 16th Meeting of the Joint U.S.-Russia committee on Cooperation in Emergency Management.

    Chukotka

    Consul General Sylvia Reed Curran visited Chukotka October 1-3. This was her second visit to the region. The Chukotka Autonomous Region is that part of Russia that borders the United States. At its closest, it is only two miles from the closest part of the United States.

    American Wins Best Actress Award

    On September 22-28, the U.S. Consulate General in Vladivostok supported the 10th annual Vladivostok International Film Festival “Pacific Meridian.” The American program at the festival was represented by a variety of genres from documentaries on fashion and ecology to feature and short films.

    U.S. Consulate Celebrates 20th Anniversary

    On September 27, the US Consulate General in Vladivostok hosted a celebration of its 20th anniversary at the historical Arsenyev Museum, the biggest museum in the city. Over 100 guests attended the ceremony and congratulated Consul General Sylvia Reed Curran.

    PAO Promotes Upcoming Mariachi Concert in Slavyanka

    On October 1, Vladivostok PAO Dae Kim, accompanied by Primorye Regional Philharmonic vocalist and pianist Sergey Pleshivtsev and Leonid Bukin, respectively, visited Slavyanka to promote the upcoming concert of the San Diego-based “Mariachi-Fiesta” later in the month.

    On September 28, the U.S. Consul General Sylvia Reed Curran gave congratulatory remarks at the opening ceremony of the Yul Brynner Memorial in central Vladivostok.
