Abandonment of Status (I-407)

Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs) who wish to abandon their permanent resident status and relinquish their Permanent Resident Card should make an appointment on Infopass at www.infopass.uscis.gov. On the day of your appointment, come to the USCIS reception window within the U.S. Embassy located at Novinsky Bulvar 19/23. USCIS Moscow will provide Form I-407, Abandonment of Lawful Permanent Residence, to be completed and signed by the LPR. Please remember to bring the Permanent Resident Card and another valid identification document, such as a passport, to the USCIS reception window for completing the Form I-407. There is no fee for this service.

As part of this process, a USCIS officer will review the Form I-407 and will ask the LPR a few questions. After the form is signed, USCIS will provide a copy of the form to the individual. After abandoning LPR status and relinquishing the Permanent Resident Card (which will be destroyed), the individual will no longer be a permanent resident of the United States and must comply with any applicable U.S. visa requirements in order to travel to the United States. The individual should keep a copy of the completed and signed Form I-407 as it may be requested when applying for a visa or when entering the United States.
