Professional Development Program Gives Inside Look at Student and Workplace Leadership in the U.S.

In July 2012, nine educators and administrators from the ChelPipe Academic Center, in the Urals region of the Russian Federation, convened in Washington, D.C. to participate in a professional development program that focused on the methods used by U.S. universities and companies to foster leadership skills amongst their students and employees. American Councils for International Education staff hosted the program, organizing a series of informative meetings for the group to attend at diverse higher education institutions and businesses throughout the Washington, D.C. and Seattle, Washington areas. Over the course of the weeklong program, participants developed a profound understanding of the U.S. education system, discovered the ways American universities collaborate with businesses, and learned innovative techniques to train and inspire the next generation of leaders in their home country.

Open World Alumni Roundtable on Societal Inclusivity in Georgia

On April 23, 2012, American Councils for International Education organized an Open World alumni roundtable on “The Relevance of the American Model for Social Inclusivity in Georgia,” at the Heinrich Boell Foundation in Tbilisi, Georgia. The event focused on the experiences and expectations of two Open World groups from Georgia. One group had previously traveled to Jacksonville, Florida in October 2011, for professional development training, and the second group was preparing to depart for Granada Hills, California soon after the event. Twenty-five people participated in the roundtable discussion, including Open World alumni, civic activists, researchers, and journalists.

U.S. Embassy of Moldova Awards Open World Alumnus Grant for Green Project

Open World alumnus Nicolae Dandis completed the "Green Areas—A Platform for Cooperation and Education in Cahul" project, funded by the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova. Mr. Dandis is also President of the DIALOG Association, Director of the Pro-Europa Center, lecturer at the State University of Cahul, and City Councilman in Cahul.
