  • chun fung—(Chinese for “spring wind.”) In China, a spring breeze; pleasant weather at the start of the spring season.
  • chunyuh—In northern China, rain during the early spring that helps the winter wheat.
There is a Chinese proverb: Chunyuh is as valuable as oil.
  • churada—A severe rain squall in the Mariana Islands (western Pacific Ocean) during the northeast monsoon.
They occur from November to April or May, especially from January through March.
  • cierzo—In Spain, local term for the mistral in the lower valley of the Ebro.
It occurs mainly in the autumn and early winter. Compare cers.
  • CIN—Abbreviation for convective inhibition.
  • circle of inertiaSee inertial circle.
  • circular cylindrical coordinates—Same as cylindrical coordinates.
  • circular depolarization ratio—(Abbreviated CDR.) The ratio of power received in the transmission channel to power received in the orthogonal channel of a dual-channel radar when a circularly polarized signal is transmitted.
Because the stronger component of the circularly polarized signal backscattered from hydrometeors has a polarization orthogonal to the transmitted polarization, the circular depolarization ratio yields a value less than unity or, equivalently, a negative decibel quantity. Note that relative to the receiver channels of the radar, the circular depolarization ratio is defined inversely to the linear depolarization ratio. Compare cancellation ratio.
  • circular frequencySee frequency.
  • circular polarization—A polarization state of an electromagnetic signal in which the electric field vector at a point in space describes a circle.
Relative to an observer looking in the direction of signal propagation, the electric fields of right and left circularly polarized signals rotate clockwise and counterclockwise, respectively.
