World Heritage Youth Forum

To foster intercultural learning and exchange and to discover new roles in heritage conservation

A World Heritage Youth Forum gives young people and their teachers an opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas on how to become involved in heritage conservation and presentation. The Forum serves as a catalyst and sparks inspiration to develop World Heritage educational and participatory activities and helps to establish a network for further co-operation on the regional and international level.

For the students, it is a chance to meet people from other countries, learn about their heritage, to discuss common concerns and to discover new roles for themselves in heritage conservation.

For the teachers, it is an opportunity to debate new educational approaches, to contribute to the World Heritage educational resource KIT "World Heritage in Young Hands", and to establish a network for future development of World Heritage Education activities.

Each Youth Forum has had a different contribution to make in promoting WHE and youth involvement. The project of world wide and regional meetings for young people and their teachers was put into action from the early stages and the Youth Forums have given impetus to the WHE Programme.

An important development is the organization of a World Heritage Youth Forum in conjunction to the World Heritage Committee meeting. One of the exciting highlights of the Forum is meeting members of the World Heritage Committee and its advisory bodies to discuss about the Convention and its implementation. A Youth delegation also presents the result of the Youth Forum to the Committee.

Another improvement is the integration of skills development training courses, whenever possible, in the agenda of the Forum.
