The Free Libya Armed Forces are composed of defected military members of the Gaddafi regime and civilians that have been forced to bear arms against said regime. The Free Libya Armed Forces are currently comprised of the Army and the Air Force. The NTC has appointed General Abdul Fatah Younis as the Commander of the Armed Forces.

He was a leading figure
in the 1969 coup that overthrew King Idris. A General in the Libyan
army and former Interior Minister, he defected on the 22d of
February to join the armed opposition.
