United Nations Development Group unite and deliver effective support for countries
What is the Coordination Expert Roster?

The Development Operations Coordination Office (DOCO) provides this roster service to the UN coordination community. The purpose of the Coordination Expert Roster is two-fold:

1) To provide a go-to expert list for CPN members for one-on-one consultation on specific issues; and
2) To provide an employment roster that helps Resident Coordinators and UN agencies to recruit qualified coordination staff.

To become part of the Coordination Expert Roster, applicants need to fulfill a number of basic criteria, such as:

  • Minimum of two years up-to-date or recent experience;
  • In-depth involvement; and
  • Relevant contribution to success in the identified area(s) of expertise.

In addition, members of the Coordination Expert Roster are vetted against the frequency and quality of their contributions and support to the CPN, and their general interaction and communications with network members and DOCO.

In principle, every member of the Coordination Practice Network (CPN), including senior management and senior advisors, can become part of the Coordination Expert Roster, even if they do not intend to use it as an employment roster. Each member of the Coordination Expert Roster agrees to offer peer-to-peer advice in his/her area(s) of expertise, upon request from network members. In return, CPN members who requested help will serve as references to recognize the expert's effort. Recommendations from CPN members will be recorded and used to verify the qualifications of the experts.

Upon request DOCO will be able to access and search the roster and recommend qualified candidates whose profiles are matching the requirements stated in the job description. If you are interested in hiring qualified coordination staff, please contact cpn@groups.undp.org to gain full access to candidates' profiles.

How to Use the Coordination Expert Roster for One-on-One Advisory

Before requesting advice from experts or posting queries on the Coordination Practice Network, CPN members should check the CPN Archives to see if the problem has been discussed before. If past discussions do not address the problem satisfactorily, CPN members can post queries to the CPN to ask for feedback, ideas and experience.

Only when further information, guidance or advice is needed after CPN discussion, CPN members should follow steps below to seek one-on-one advice from coordination experts:

1. The Coordination Expert Roster can be accessed here.

2. There are eight areas of expertise at the root level. Members can click on expertise in blue to see the sub-expertise in that area. Members should look for specific expertise that best describes the problem in question. For example, a member with questions regarding HACT Macro-assessment should look for expertise with HACT (Common Country Programming Process->Aid Effectiveness->HACT) rather than Common Country Programming Process or Aid Effectiveness.

3. Once appropriate expertise is found, members can see the names of experts in this area by clicking the search button corresponding to the expertise. Members can then click the email icon corresponding to the expert to send an inquiry about the expert’s availability to help with the issue. Members should cc' the CPN facilitator (cpn@groups.undg.org) in the first email requesting advice.

4. Please note that while experts have agreed to offer support to CPN members upon joining the roster, it also depends on experts’ availability and experience regarding the issue raised. Once the experts confirm their availability, the inquirer can work bilaterally with the experts to solve the problem.

5. Once the advisory is concluded, the inquirer should contact the CPN facilitator to fill out a reference form for the expert. While references will be visible to the expert, the content of the reference forms is confidential and can only be seen by roster managers and hiring agencies/offices. The reference forms play a crucial role in verifing an expert's credentials for future employment decisions.

Please contact cpn@groups.undp.org if you have any problems using this service.
