Unidos en accion: Delivering as One in Uruguay
The Government of Uruguay has repeatedly and publicly expressed the value it attaches to the UN’s role as a trusted partner, policy adviser, provider of technical support and implementation partner. With continuing strong emphasis on poverty reduction initiatives since the 1999-2002 economic crises, the Government of Uruguay requested to become a pilot to test out the “Delivering as One” concept. Watch how the RC and members of the UNCT are working together closely with the Government on this important initiative which will increase the effectiveness of the UN in Uruguay.


UN Welcomes New UNDG Chair Helen Clark with a Powhiri Ceremony
The halls of the United Nations echoed with singing and chanting during the colorful and lively traditional Maori ceremony to welcome new UN Development Group Chair and UNDP Administrator Helen Clark. The event, called a powhiri (pronounced poor-fee-ree), began with the thunderous sounding of a conch shell and a Maori warriors dance, and ended with Helen Clark, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand, and her Maori delegation pressing noses with senior UN officials in a hongi. UN Reform in Viet Nam: Keeping up with a Tiger
Viet Nam is one of eight countries that is part of the UN pilot initiative to “Deliver as One.” As the pace of positive change in Viet Nam quickens, it is entering a new phase of development that requires a more coherent, effective and efficient UN to meet its growing needs at a time when it is not primarily about service delivery anymore, but about providing coherent, high-quality policy advice. “Clearly business as usual is not an option,” says Viet Nam Resident Coordinator John Hendra in the video. “Viet Nam is changing rapidly and we as the United Nations also have to change with it.” This 10-minute clip was shot in August 2008. UN and World Bank strengthen partnership on crisis and post-crisis assistance
The United Nations and the World Bank agreed in October 2008 to strengthen their cooperation in crisis and post-crisis situations. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and World Bank President Robert Zoellick signed a partnership framework which affirms their commitment to coordinate more effectively in countries affected by conflict and or natural disasters. Tanzania - Delivering as One
Tanzania is one of eight countries that is part of the UN pilot initiative to “Deliver as One”. The objectives are to increase the impact of the UN at country level by increasing national ownership of UN activities, reducing transaction costs generated by UN organizations, and increasing the UN’s coherence, efficiency and relevance. By harnessing expertise from across the UN system and creating synergies between UN organizations, Delivering as One is strengthening the UN Country Team’s ability to help Tanzania attain the Millennium Development Goals.
