This manual has been written to support African civil society groups in their poverty reduction efforts and to relate their existing activities - from service delivery to advocacy - to the global targets set out in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In addition to providing background on the MDGs, it identifies the opportunities presented to various actors by the MDGs to forge long-term partnerships focused on reaching the Goals.

El objetivo central del proyecto consistió en realizar esfuerzos de difusión para que los actores del desarrollo, tanto a nivel nacional como municipal y local, conocieran, analizaran e incorporaran las metas del milenio como un instrumento útil en la definición de políticas públicas a nivel nacional, regional y municipal.

This publication is based on a joint project aiming at a greater diffusion and socialization of the MDGs through a series of successful workshops carried out in four departments in Honduras during the months of February and March this year.

I like to share some updated information about a initiative started in Viet Nam "localising" MDGs (i.e. making them more Viet Nam specific),. This foreword was used for the below mentioned papers and the VDGs (Viet Nam Development Goals) were developed based on the MDGs. This work was done by the Poverty Task Force (consisting of Govt agencies, bilateral, multilateral donors as well as national and international NGOs) and served as an input to set goals and indicators for the PRSP (called Comprehensive Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy (CPRGS) in Vietnam). Eight papers were produced on topics ranging from health, education, governance, infrastructure, ethnic minorities, environment, poverty to vulnerability. Each of the papers identified a set of goals, targets and indicators of which several were then incorporated, together with the MDGs into the CPRGS. As soon as the final version of the documents will be published, they will become available on the UNDP Viet Nam web. Future monitoring in Viet Nam will encompass both the MDGs and well as the VDGs.
