A suicide bombing rocked the United Nations building in Hargesia, Somalia on 29 October 2008, killing two staff members and severely injuring two more. Rebecca Wabwoba, the Information Officer in the Resident Coordinator’s Office for Somalia, survived the attack. Here, she recounts how the ordeal affected her and ultimately strengthened her commitment. “The way to show them that we are not defeated is to continue working,” she says, “to bring dignity and hope to men, women and children living in difficult circumstances.”
