Participants in the Sister Cities Forum in Dubai today praised the efforts by Dubai Municipality in setting pioneering standards in civic services and urban development. On the second day of the forum, being held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai's Deputy Ruler and UAE Minister of Finance and Industry, who is also Chairman of Dubai Municipality, delegates lauded the best practices of Dubai as excellent examples to learn from.
Dubai presented its best practices on the role of the Geographic Information System (GIS) in urban development, the General Control System of Parking Meters, the General Waste Processing Project and the Hazardous and Medical Wastes, Al Aweer Sewerage Treatment Plant and Strategic Planning vs Performance Management.
The Sister Cities Forum is a gathering of mayors and top executives from cities that have twinning protocols and cooperation agreements with Dubai. Folkloric shows by groups from participating cities are presented daily. The cities include Istanbul (Turkey), Osaka (Japan), Beirut (Lebanon), Guangzhou and Shanghai (China), Geneva (Switzerland), Gold Coast (Australia), Casablanca (Morocco), Damascus (Syria), Detroit (USA) and Dundee (Scotland).
