Plywood Special

Three Years Later, Plywood Up at Day-O Space

2010_12_dayo1.jpg

A tipster and Jeremiah Moss notice that a plywood fortress has recently arisen around the old Day-O space on Greenwich Ave. between Jane and West 12th. It's a good sign of progress, given the place has sat empty and abandoned for the better part of three years, ever since the diner shuttered for good in January 2008. For those who haven't been following, the space was repossessed in February '09, and an applicant finally appeared before the Greenwich Village Society of Historic Preservation in May to ask for permission to alter the facade. Of course, the sticklers that they are, the GVSHP and Community Board 2 rejected the application—see the renderings here—but work, nonetheless, is getting done in there.
