This guidance note highlights the main issues that are likely to arise when preparing a country-level MDG report. It replaces the first one from October 2001 and incorporates many of the findings of the assessment of existing MDGRs taken by UNDP's Evaluation Office in 2003.

This paper discusses the principal purposes of these reports, identifies areas of overlap and complementarity and looks at ways in which each can reinforce and contribute to improving the other.

This presentation was made for an information meeting of the Country Team (Republic of Congo) and further of the National Committee. This could be useful for other French speaking countries.

The "MDGRs' Step-by Step Preparation Plan" contains series of suggested guidance and checkpoints for UNDP Country Offices (COs) in the Arab Region to streamline the COs' assistance of the relevant countries to prepare and launch the Millennium Development Goals Reports (MDGRs). The paper provides a background and explanation of MDGRs and then introduces the plan in table format. The plan is divided into four steps, preparatory, implementation, writing of final report, and support of future monitoring and evaluation. For each purpose/goal specified the following are provided: an associated activity; an expected duration, cost and outcome; and recommendations or comments.
